If you didn't need a truck, why'd you buy a truck?

there is some people ( not all ) that buy a truck for the convenience of a bed. I don't NEED a truck per sey, I can fit most of my dredge equipment in the back of the 4Runner but a truck bed way a lot cleaner and less hastle. Unless you tow constantly or need it for work of some sort I bet theres a lot of people who don't necessarily NEED a truck but that's not a fair statement. he should be able to buy whatever he wants and not run into problems.

What are the lemon laws for your state? I'd take a look at that. I haven't really had any problems with my 2017 Tacoma although I've found that it drives way better (and gets better mileage) with the ECT button on. Reading the manual I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

I was half ass joking dude. I do prefer a truck, just one that doesn't have to visit the dealership every other week. Thank you for helping me reevaluate my decision making tho.

My question was just curiosity, not trying to imply anything. Having had a 4runner and wrangler and other stuff I got tired of trying to do pickup stuff with an SUV and ended up with the Tacoma. Haven't had any issues in the six months I've had it, but can definitely understand the frustration of getting a bad one. Certainly could be worth dropping back to a 2nd gen or exploring other truck options if your needs simply aren't a match for the 3rd gen's particulars rather than problems with a bad build.

I'm sorry but this cant be true, I have dealt with Toyota Corp multiple times. Your Quote would not have come from customer support let alone from the company trying to keep your business. Unless you are exaggerating what they told you which would not be a quote. Now if it was from your dealer then yes I could see that. And if they did tell you that at your dealer go to a new one.

I can tell you Toyota Corp. has been more than helpful in trying to keep me a customer.

My advise to you is, first get this documented. express your concern, (they will give you an extended warranty) then, tell them what your dealer told you, next go to a different dealer.

Yeah well this is pretty much what toyota told me too. "The crummy drivetrain (shift flare, clunk in rear, howling diff, etc) is normal we're sorry you don't like it. Want to lose 5 or 6 grand and we can sell you something else?"

It is no exaggeration. He said those exact words....."live with it until Toyota decides it's a big enough problem"

California has a pretty strict lemon law. I know this because my brother in Texas bought a Cali Lemon that had been "fixed." FWIW I told him he was an idiot to do it.

I'd try to get a new Taco before I just jumped ship to something else. I love my truck.

As far as my dealings with Toyota... I've had a Tundra, a Camry, and now a Tacoma. Never had any problems with any of them. Heck my parents even jumped on the Toyota boat with me with my dad getting my old Tundra and my mom buying a Prius. Dealership... now that is a different story.

It is really sad that this is what it has come down to. I love the guys who say "dump it and buy a _____". I don't care how much money you make, whether you lease or buy... $40,000 is a shit load of money. EVERY TIME you go to a stealership you will get the short end of the stick. When I bought my 2015 it is a 10year 180,000 mile purchase. This is why I bought a taco and not a Government Motors piece of disposable trash. I do believe that Toyota will ultimately fix the 3rd gen. The 6 speed seems to perform fine. Ford destroyed the Taurus (ford 500) by trying a CVT transmission that was total SHIT. As others have stated, be very thankful that it is a lease and they get it back. Keep holding Toyota accountable and complaining. Everytime they enter it into the computer it is documented. My 2015 is not flawless. It makes the weird noise in heavy cross winds, it has the legendary "taco tick", and gets 17 mpg. I knew this going in. We all had very high hopes that Toyota was going to make the "perfect" taco... I think you are suffering from first model year gremlins. Lets see if they make it right. Sadly we are running out of great trucks.

Meh. GM, Ford, Dodge, they all make trucks that will make 250K+ miles easy. The only questionable truck is the 1st gen Colorado/Canyon. Everything else is pretty decent. Sure, the Taco clicked all the right keys for me, but those other trucks would have been fine for a DD.

It blows my mind all the trash talk from the Taco crowd when they have Tacos requiring frame replacements..... None of the big 3 ever had something so basic fail so spectacularly. IMO, there really isn't any room to talk trash when your frame is rusting away.
