Connecting a USB-C switch in a 3rd Gen

I’m trying to replace my stock USB switch (it stopped working) with a USB-C switch and can’t get any power. Now granted I’m NOT an electrician at all but any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

 

Make sure it's not the USB to the Head Unit.

 

I believe it is. Once I plug my phone in,it gives me an option in my audio settings to select USB. I have no clue on how to wire it into my truck.

 

So adding that USB -C is a no deal...

If you still want to use the replacement, tap the wires from the "cigarette" lighter port.

AutoZone usually has those piggyback connectors.

 

Well ain’t that nifty!!!

 

Tape or heat shrink the exposed metal on the piggyback connector.

 

Until you can figure out the wiring issue, something like this will get you USB-C power.

is there one in the console ?

 

Just the factory one that’s underneath the climate controls. It has an auxiliary input with it.

 

it connects to the radio leave it alone - my 2 cents - i use one like this

its a faster charger and some have 2 or more places to charge

ps - you said the radio still recognizes phone when its plugged in = so its working?

 

I have one of those. It works great. Bit since my factory usb input went tits up I figured I would “try” and do an upgrade for my 15 pro max phone. Apparently I was wrong.

some phones have issues with the 3rd gens but there is also the wireless adapter for car play

 

I’ve got several helpful suggestions tonight so far. I’ll have to make a trip to the auto store tomorrow and get a couple things that hopefully work. But keep on sending the advice. It’s greatly appreciated!!!

 

Thinking of buying this item, is it a direct fit to the factory holes? Thanks in advance

Does it supply enough wattage to charge your phone?

 

I like this concept. I'd like to put a USB C charger port(wired to the lighter) in the factory aux spot and move the factory one inside the dash or glovebox with a wireless carplay dongle secured to it.
