What differences are there between mounting the RTT over the bed vs. the cabin? Would like to maintain unobstructed use of the bed with a tonneau cover, so thinking about mounting RTT on cabin. Any real differences other than obviously the entry height?

The wind drag will kill mileage and if it’s to big it throws off the center of gravity of the truck. You’ll have to be extra careful taking corners fast.

I planned on prinsu and RTT so I can still throw the ol dirt bike in the back. Plenty of people do it. Yes, sure, cg. Great. Don't drive your truck like an ass. Cater your driving as you would when towing. Mileage? Truck.

To me, the bed is more useful than the roof so unless I bring kayaks, that's when I'll switch to bed bars. But even then, I could still probably put them in/over the bed.

Depending on your use of bed, if you're just looking for dry storage you can get bed bars to go over it through kbvoodoo or a couple others.

There is no question an RTT is better over the bed. I've done both

That’s my dilemma now. Got a hard shell and Prinsu cab rack on order. Was going to mount on the cab but for looks and function I want to mount over the bed. Also gives me full use of the Prinsu. So hoping KB Voodoos brackets that work with the BakFlip MX4 allow for their bed rack over it. If not then I’ll go with the ARE Overland shell but now I’m spending some cash. All to sleep off the ground and bring my 5 year old son with me.

If you're talking cab vs cab-height rack mounting you won't see much difference other than noise. If you're debating about mounting on the tonneau, it will be a huge difference sticking it up on the cab with all that weight up high and even worse with it shifting a good portion to the front axle.

I'm hoping to mount a hard shell RTT over the bed, with a little bit of overhang over the cab. I have a DCSB, so I was going to use the KB Voodoo tall rack since all of the hard shell tents seem to be at least 80" long. I'm not sure if it would be best to use the long bed or the short bed voodoo rack though. I'm also unclear if I would need to mount a Prinsu rack on top of the voodoo rack to give the RTT enough clearance to go over the shark fin on the cab. I've seen a few others with that setup, but it would be nice to mount the tent directly to the voodoo rack.
