    Hey guys – I have an 05 and considering a 2021 SR5 access cab, 4cyl, 6' bed.
Considering adding the optional premium auto and navigation package – dealer says I need to get a V-6? Seems to be conflicting information with what they have on their website.
Is it worth adding the package or can I just sync through my phone, and directions will come up on the screen?

Maybe regional, but I cannot build an SR or SR5 with a 4cyl on the tacoma website and get the options for tech/nav packages. Only showing for me as an option on the SR5 V6.

I've got a 20 TRDOR without tech/nav, and have no issues using android auto nav feature.

don't get the Navigation package. Most new models have Apple Car play and Android auto. Better maps than any navigation in my opinion. Not to mention no costly map upgrades. I used downloaded Google maps for when I know I am not gonna be in cell phone range.

after years of using phones they are always better then the factory nav setups. I would see what else comes in the package as they tend to bundle other stuff with it that you can only get on that package. make you buy the package. usually tech related stuff. I know they have 360 camera setup now if that was part of the nav package I would prob buy it. You can retro fit that stuff but always nice when its factory.

I don't really think it's worth it, getting the Sat Nav package. Plugging in your phone seems to be way better.

You are right about the packaging. The only thing I kick myself for is the dual zone climate. After having many vehicles where you set the temp and forget about it, now I can't stand adjusting my temp manually. Feel like I can't get it perfect. First world problems.

In my opinion, the Access Cab is definitely the way to go. Everyone has their own needs, and a 4 door DCSB would not meet mine.

But you asked about the Premium audio with integrated navigation package. That's what I have and I absolutely love it.
I don't know much about Android Auto, but it doesn't seem to be anything I'd want. My life does not revolve around my phone.

I have my music on a USB thumb drive, and it works great.

I've owned a couple under powered compacts in the past. A V6 was a given for me.

Thanks for all the replies, I decided I'd rather use my phone and Apple carplay. So now it's a waiting game, made a few calls today and they say it will be weeks. They have an SR, but I really like the SR5.

I agree, I have the SR5 now! I'm looking at buying the same model and color as my 05!

I have a 2020 Sr5 v6. I didn't get the sat nav. I just use the android auto when I want to use nav. Really simple plug in your phone to the usb and hit the map button on the radio. I'm sure it's the same with Apple. It should even work with Waze if you have that on your phone, it did when i tried it with my OnePlus 7pro.

I was using my phone for years in my Jeep Liberty before that. It came with their DVD based nav. The updated maps were $150 per year to update which i did after it was a few years old but then it stopped working so... Google maps and honestly that works better. Just be sure to download the map data before you leave if you think the area is out of data coverage your going to and it will work perfectly.

Make up your mind about what you really want, and don't settle for anything else.
    Good luck!

I agree. Buy what you want. Most of us were just giving options you can go with. Personally I don't see Navigation being a premium option in the near future with all the phone integration stuff out there. I had Nav on my Mazda CX9 and it was garbage. Not sure how well the Toyota system works

Get a Garmin for $100 and never look back. Or a used iPad. If I had the factory nav I would pay to have it removed.

The factory navigation system works well when you get onto roads in remote areas and lose gps signal on your phone. Major drawback is no traffic/accident/speed trap updates. Use both!

I don't think it's the GPS signal phones loose in remote areas. I have traveled many times in areas with poor or no cell service and never lost GPS signal. GPS stands for global satlite positioning system, therefore it's global and available everywhere. What you are loosing on a cell phone is data coverage and are not able to pull new map information as you travel.
Google maps let's you download map data for areas. I do this when I'm going somewhere I've never been and am not sure how good data coverage will be.
One of the places I camp my phone doesn't work for miles and miles. I've never not been able to use the off line maps I downloaded to my phone to navigate in that area. It takes a few minutes of thought and not much time to download some off line maps. Of course google maps don't give you traffic/accident/speed trap info when in of line mode but it still gets you to your destination.

I've done the google maps download when entering areas with no cell service. Like you say it takes a few minutes while the nav system in the truck is always there. It would be nice to have the best of both. I've briefly looked at my wife's android auto link using google maps; unimpressive.

I have decided against the navigation package – so many other mods n things I could do with that money.
