So I've had enough fun at my current employer, took the jobs for the benefits solely, but at this point I'm getting itchy feet and am considering relocating to a more rural locale.

Here's my conundrum, I'm sitting on a pretty good offer, but it doesn't have any guaranteed longevity in the location i'm considering, they've had work for 10 years and a few more guaranteed coming up. That being said I've got a second interview with a more stable employer on friday in the same area and an application in with my "dream job" over there submitted today.

Thoughts, I don't need to leave where I'm at, but I'm feeling like it's time to make a change.

Always run to something and not away from something.
Not necessarily meaning you need to have life figured out but just have a plan.

Nothing wrong with switching to another job and theres not a whole lot of longevity to it. You can always find another job depending on your field.

I think if you have an opportunity to do something you really want to do and have the ability to do it, go for it. You don’t always have those opportunities.

How many is a 'few more guaranteed'?

Did they indicate when a decision would be made?

Side note. Very few 'dream jobs' turn out to be so. While it may read well on paper, many other factors can ruin the dream.

Or your feet may get itchy again. Not saying not to pursue it. Just saying be cautious on creating an emotional bubble someone else can burst.

Only 2 or 3 years, plus the money just wasn't quite there.

They said the process for my interview today should take 2 weeks if i get through it. I'm also expecting to hear back on another opportunity next week.

My mantra (5 work related moves) was when it doubt, don't.

But, if it's something you really want, feel qualified for, and meets your needs, pursue with vigor.

Don't fret over having options. Many folks don't. Unless you are signing some type of tenure contract, there's also nothing that says you can't leave a job shortly after accepting it if something better presents itself.

Just don't tell your prospective employer you're signing on for the duration. (never lie about anything in any interview, as it's grounds for dismissal if found later)

If the question is something like 'how long do you see yourself here?', the answer is 'I can't predict the future. All I can tell you is that I will give my best while in your employ.'

Best wishes to get the right job for you!
