I put a deposit in a trd OR in MGM 4 weeks ago. Spoke to dealer and they still say will be about 4-6 weeks out. I special ordered because I only wanted predator side steps as the only option. They gave me about $1800 off msrp too. Said would only be about 4-6wks when I put $$ down.

I test drove a Sierra, both GM twins and a new f150. Liked the taco best over every other.

My problem is that I'm coming from a luxury vehicle that I very much enjoy. Heated seats, 12 way movement, one of the best cruise controls cars I've ever driven, literally the whole bag. But I was able to pick and choose the options I want. I really hate how Toyota makes packages that I only want one thing out of.

My thing is I'm very open minded but the more people who post on here, YouTube, on the net keep posting so many negatives about the truck. Fluids low from dealer, wind noises, tranny probs, phone link system is crap, ect. I am really worried about buying this truck now that I've had time to think and my car needs tires, inspection, brakes VERY soon. So it won't last long as I am not going to put more money into it.

I can only afford about $34-35 before my trade. I'm just dumbfounded for that much there is not even power seats and most people are also reporting pretty crappy mpg.

A co worker bought a new ram Eco diesel big horn crew cab. He said they took $12k off then gave him $1500 additional on his trade. He got the truck for a little over $35k before his trade. Let me drive it when we went out to lunch. Drive great and very nice inside. He's getting over 22 city and 28-30 hwy with under 1k on it. Around here diesel 15cents more per gallon. So no biggy there. Im going to the dealership tomorrow because they have almost identical one to what built online. So we shall see.

I wanted the taco because it was a good size for me, new awesome design, and the off road version capabilities as well as resale value.

Buy what you want , whatever that may be, or you could listen to an internet engineer that thinks they have the best of this and the best of that and think they know it all.

As for me, I enjoy my 3rd Gen, I waited a long time for it to come out, I refused to buy a butt ugly 2nd Gen, 900 miles on mine so far and no problems, but buy what makes you happy.

    Good luck in your decision.

The hype made me nervous when I was awaiting delivery as well, I haven't had any issues with my truck though. I wouldn't sweat it.

Keep in mind along with the big discounts on other vehicles comes big depreciation.

Are you writing to us to explain why you are going with the Dodge or to get us to push you to stay with the Tacoma?

I would never buy a diesel in this market

OP, I have the TRD OR 4X4 model with 9000 miles on it. Lately, I have been whining about only getting 16mpg and my tranny constantly shifting when on cruise at 75mph, but I still love my Taco.

It has over 9 inchs clearance and with all the rain/flooding in Texas; I had no problem bypassing a washed out bridge and heading down an almost impassable goat trail/roadway with ease. I love the size of the Taco for parking/driving/handling/ride. I have had NO issues or problems preventing me from driving. Everything on my Taco seems solid and put together right. I love the interior and layout, and I am comfortable driving 650 mile roadtrips.

I have an appointment to DROP off my Taco for a few days for my 10,000 mile service. I have voiced my concern on mileage and shifting to the dealership and I supplied pictures my wife took of dash gauges while shifting and a log book of driving routes and patterns of the shifting and when it occured. They will keep it and test it.

It is a truck not a fancy car; I don't miss the power seat. I am normally the only driver so I would never use it.

Both have their pro and cons. That's what I am weighing. Just wanted to see if anyone went through the same situation and what may have pushed them to a certain side. I just want to do what's best for me but I don't know if I can wait 4-6 more weeks in the taco I have ordered. I even talked about changing options, still none in mum to be found and dealers here aren't willing to trade OR's with each other. Sports, yes OR no.

Ram has the better mpg, rear cab size, creature comforts, better ride. However, is a bit big for my liking and usually has poor resale.

Taco is right size, off road capabilities, better look I feel, and better resale value. but rear cab is a bit small, no power seats and not adding package to get heated, tranny issues, especially with cruise control,

So I'm just weighing what's more important. Also, dodge is 1.9% financing and Toyota is 3.9%. The taco is still my first choice as of now, just want some feedback from current owners.

that ram eco diesel is a full sized truck with an underpowered motor. The Tacoma is a midsized truck with a midsized motor

It always make me laugh when people try to show how a V6 F150 costs less than a Tacoma. They should be comparing I4 Tacoma to V6 F150, NOT V6 Tacoma to V6 F150

The RAM ecodiesel is complete shit. Search Mopar ecodiesel on youtube and there's a guy posting videos who has gone through hell on it. He's got plenty of videos. I wonder if he put in his spray painted yellow replacement motor yet..

Stay far far away from the Ecoshit. Maybe get a 5.0L V8 F-150 and call it good.

I just traded in my 2012 F150 Lariat, had the leather seats, sound system, etc. Very nice truck. Are there things I miss on that truck that I wish I had on my 16 Taco? Yes. I miss the power seats, but then remember all the problems I had with them not holding their position, constantly moving them back where I wanted, etc. They would only stay in position a week, then would be out of position. Not major mind you.

Other electrical problems started to creep up as well, along with the shocks/struts getting replaced, 3 radiator hoses failing at the same time, and all under 59,000 miles. Some of this isn't major to some people, but it really struck me as odd after so few miles.

Leather interior... it was nice, especially with the kids. Super easy clean up, but also very very noisy, and would echo (think of kids screaming)

Controls... I can easily reach all the controls in the Taco, from the dash, touch screen, etc. The F150 was just too big and required more effort to reach everything, even with the seat moved up.

Gas mileage... if I really went easy with the F150, I could maybe get 17mpg in town. Most of the time I would get 14.5, and that was a 2wd, not 4x4 like I have now with the Taco.

Size... the F150 was 6" wider than the Taco, but also 3 feet longer than the present DCSB that I have now. Most of the time the F150 was running empty, I didn't tow anything since we moved down here, and it was a waste of space all in all. Parking was a bitch, but I adapted and just parked further away, and I still do it with the Taco.

At the end of the day though, you have to do what's best for you and your family. My situation is different from yours, and vice versa. The Taco works for us, even with two kids. The kids will eventually grow up and be out of the house, and while the Taco doesn't have that cavernous space of the F150, I feel like I have more utility out of the Taco than I did the F150. I can reach just about everything in the bed of the Taco without having to crawl around into the back. I'm not going to lie and say I'm completely used to the Taco, I'm not, but it's growing on me more and more, and I'm adjusting my driving habits and lifestyle to it too. Overall I"m really happy with the Taco, it's a nice truck, quirks and all. Do I have the hood vibrating on certain bumps? Yes. Do I have the whistling LCA's at certain speeds? Yes. Does it have a sluggish start off the line? Yes. But those things aside... I don't mind it honestly. It feels like a more capable truck than what I had, and I feel like it fits my lifestyle and family better than the F150 ever did. Plus the lack of complaints from the kids and wife is HUGE. No more complaints about uncomfortable seats, noise, etc. We also intend to get into camping, so the 4x4 was important to us, though will not be used at all times.

What do you want? A luxury vehicle that pampers you or a utility vehicle that is capable on and off-road? What are your off-road and utility uses for the truck? Why are you switching from a luxury vehicle to a truck and what prompted the change?

Your also comparing a Big Horn Ram diesel to a mid-size Tacoma. Except for the fact that they are trucks, you're comparing apples to oranges. Do you really want a full-size truck like the Ram? Sounds like you aren't really sure what you want and possibly didn't think this decision through before ordering the TRD OR. IF you wanted the most creature comforts and 'luxury' why not the Limited?

Sounds like your getting cold feet, and just looking for a reason to back out of the Tacoma and aside from just wanting a truck just to have it (which is fine, you don't need to justify your reasons to any of us!) but I think before you make any decisions you need to figure out what's more important to you; truck size, fuel efficiency, or luxury vs. capability, proven longevity and better resale down the line or 'more' truck from the get go with less reliability and resale in the future. If you are honest with yourself and make these decisions before you commit I think you'll have a truck you're happy with, whichever you decide.

And you can have all the leather, power everything, technology, etc., but it reminds me of an old saying..."You can put pearls on a pig, but in the end it's still pig". Or this other gem..."You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd!"

I had a Cummins RAM. Engine was fine. Rest of the truck was junk. Nothing but problems. Had to put in new A/C evaporator units every 1 1/2 years. Chrysler dealers were awful.

I consider my Taco OR with 6MT a luxary vehicle. Rides nicely. Has heated seats, heated mirrors, excellent entertainment system, sunroof. Yes Id like power seats. Overall a pleasure so far. After my experience with Chrysler I would never, never, never buy a RAM. Also a friend of mine had a,new RAM recently and the engine blew up with only a few thousand on it. Took months to solve. He, of course, got rid of it.

If you let every internet truck forum 'engineer' dictate what truck you were going to buy, you would end up walking to work every day. Every forum I have ever been on (BMW, VW, Toyota) all have the EXACT same things going on. People only post about the bad and you never hear from the other 90% of the people that absolutely love their vehicle and are contently driving them every day. It sounds to me like you are only considering the RAM because you have to wait for the Taco.. but that is just a guess.

This sort of statement always surprises me. A new car purchase is typically the second most expensive purchase most people make (behind buying a home). Why the rush? Car dealers LOVE buyers that are in a hurry. To me, it's simple: I will wait as long as it takes to get exactly what I wanted.

Dealer financing is not your only option. Check with your bank, your credit card company. Capital one offered me 2.49 on a 60 or 48 month loan. I guess the Dodge financing beats that, but there's a reason for it.... look what kinda hoops they have to jump through to be competitive.
