Thats what I was also thinking, but what do I know? If I was going to dump another $10k+ into a truck in aftermarket parts and mods (he says he's into it for $50k total now) you'd think he would have done a little more research upfront. To each his/her own.

Sounds to me like you put money down before you were done window shopping. First 6-7 months of a hole new generation of a already highly sought after make and model is going to be rather scarce every one wants the new generation truck and then when you want special order features just adds to what could be a longer wait time for your truck. With the toyota Tacoma truck being in such demand it is not just curb appeal but a very high level of reliability that also comes with this truck that has been proven over better than 30 or 40 years. If you can not afford a toyota with the luxery items like heated seats and mirrors maybe you should buy a less expensive truck maybe a gm or ford but you get what you pay for in the long run. If you only plane on keepng the truck a year or to maybe ford or gm is better suited for you. One othe pont is that Toyota's hold their resale value better than any other car or truck bar none.

Make shure you know what you want before you plunk your money down. Why would a dealer discount a large amount of money? Because it isnt worth sticker price and cant move them. Look at the value of the trucks you are thinking about 5 years down the road. Its your money buy what you want and be happy with your decision. Don't even think about the Toyota you left behind, it will make someone elses day within 2 days of your rejection and they wont get your discount.

I have my 16 a little over 2 weeks. It has some cosmetic issues, which are more or less minor in nature. I could spend all night picking it apart, but I am a very picky person. Bottom line is like someone said before and I wholeheartedly agree, Toyota owners are used to near perfection. I too expect nothing less from Toyota. Despite some minor problems, in the end I would probably still buy it again. Its my 9th one and hopefully Toyota will work the bugs out of the 3rd gen. Tacoma in the future. One thing I will say is Toyota has always made things right for me. I will be in touch with Toyota Corporate just to air my own experiences and concerns. Opinions are just that, But I for one am disappointed in my 2016.

His research was based off of owning two tacomas previously and being very happy. He also test drove the truck and did months of research. However, test drives, research and the like are far different from living with the truck and driving it day in and day out. I offered my opinion. You are certain welcome to your own option, as is everyone else. The personal attacks and back handed insults are unnecessary. the 2016 is a departure from the gen 1 and gen 2. I stated facts.

the gen 2 had 236 hp @5200 RPM compared to gen 3 with 278 at 6000 rpm
the gen 2 had 266 fp Torque at 4000 rpm and the gen 3 with 265 @ 4600.

So yes, if you want all that power and torque it has to rev high. Look at a power band chart. The transmission is programmed to never lug, so it downshifts often - again, power only in the high band of RPM.

It is what it is. If you disagree, fine. I think the OP posted his question in an effort to gain feedback. I gave mine, without personal attacks.

on a side note: so far on this forum i have encountered far more individuals that are incapable of commenting or other wise stating their opinion without attacking someone else. There are several on here that are capable of civil conversation and respect others opinions. However they are certainly the minority.

My wife has had had six Tacomas and I have had three Rams. We have put 100,000+miles on all of our trucks before trading. My Rams have been every bit as reliable as her Tacomas. I really like both trucks. The Ram is much more comfortable to drive than the Tacomas, but is a whole lot bigger. All of the Rams have been Hemi's and have had 3.92 rear axles but still got 16-18 mpg. Her Tacomas have been V-6's and have rarely seen 20 mpg.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
People want the most stuff and that costs $. I bought the one on the lot that nobody wanted that I could get a fair price on. I'm glad to have 2 steering wheel controls (turning and horn) and the air con make ice cubes.

Ha. So just because I have experienced the contrary to you you have to get all offended?! Sounds like all your whining about backhanded comments and being civil are applicable to everyone on here buy yourself. I get it. DO as I say, but not as i do. If you'd like someone to act the way you mentioned in your response to my other reply, you need to exhibit that type of behavior yourself, instead of also replying with your own snide, backhanded remarks.

I really like my truck but there are a few problem areas with the shifting and transmission. Overall I feel like this transmission and engine combination is a swing and miss by Toyota. A software update might help and a TSB or recall to check trucks for transmission fluid might be in order but I'm not sure that will entirely remedy my disappointment with this Powertrain. If I could go back in time I would probably hold out for a 2017 and do some more in-depth test driving to see if they ironed some of these issues out or improve the performance of the truck.

I traded in my 2006 Tundra for my Taco and it was an obvious upgrade. However, I've been driving my wife's RX 350 and I got a little spoiled with all the luxury. So I ordered a fully loaded taco which I'm happy with. It's still a truck and has some kick ass seat heaters. IMO its a truck and not a car, there's going to be noise. Yes, some of it is annoying at times, but that just means my music is too low. Once the drive train got some miles on it, I've had no shifting issues and I'm averaging 19-20 per tank (mostly highway). The truck feels slightly sluggish with ECT off but I consider it the fuel saving mode. Once I turn ECT on, it really picks up and you can feel it in the higher RPMs. Overall, with the resale value, the offroad capabilities, and the reliability, I'll accept a few minor things like no power seats or a crappy phone link system.

I love how people give anecdotal stories and we're supposed to take it as gospel. Everyone has a story about a piece of crap vehicle. Doesn't matter which brand, make, or model. If specific vehicles where such shit, they wouldn't be so popular.

With the Tacoma's you pay a lot for "reliability." The trucks cost so much because people will pay a lot based on Toyota's PAST image. I don't think anyone can argue that 35-40k can go a lot further in other brands in terms of creature comforts, but still people come back to Toyota for reliability and resale value. You have to figure out what your needs are, it is always a risk. If this generation starts having major reliability issues, resale value won't hold up as well. You don't know what decisions Toyota will make as a company in 3,5,10,etc. years, nor do you know what the competition will bring to the table, so when I hear people base their decision purely on reliability and resale, it is a little disappointing. Less of a risk if you get a new car every few years, but it is a risk you have to weigh.

Let us be realistic. It is 2016, I would venture to guess that all of the trucks you have to choose from (barring a lemon) will make it 100k+ miles and many more. It doesn't matter which brand you buy, bad parts make it off the production line. Nobody should fool themselves and think there is no chance their brand new Tacoma can leave them stranded.

Buy what you want now, buy what you feel will work for you and your family for however long you intend to keep the vehicle and be done with it. You want to enjoy getting in your truck everyday. I feel bad for the people that buy Tacoma's mainly for resale value. Why get in your truck every morning and tell yourself you wish you had this or that or this, but hey, at least when you sell it you'll get a few extra bucks....

What size of tires are you running? What weight? Load range?

One thing is for sure and most people are missing it here. This new Tacoma is not as tolerant of larger tires or heavier tires that require more power to overcome rolling resistance. The engine is less powerful down low and the ratios are tuned for EPA numbers which works against anyone who wants to use this truck as a weekend warrior.

OP its your money and your truck that you have to live with so do what you want. Of course you're going to get some biased answers on here lol. Personally I absolutely love my truck and will keep it for a long time or until something grenades. Not everyone has been having the said "problems" but those who do are usually the loudest on here. If you're going to plan on using your truck off road then the Tacoma is where it's at hands down, the truck is a beast! Things like not having power seats and other creature comforts just don't matter to me like they do other people, I'm still trying to figure out all the features the truck had and I'm not even old haha (I don't let anyone drive my truck so I haven't adjusted the seat since I drove it off the lot in October).

You may be right. I have the Toytec lift - 2 -3 inches. 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT II. My 2013 had a 2 in lift with 265/75/16 same toyo tires. It was great. no issues. Toyota made a big mistake with this engine/tranny combo. And to make it worse, they discontinued the TRD supercharger!! I would have bought one yesterday if they offered it. I get it. The truck is tuned for EPA. and i'm pretty certain the HWY MPG was tested at 55mph going downhill with the wind at your back.
