    Thanks for reply!
4 cylinder is on order. I'm just worried about MPG dropping significantly due to cap / 100-150lbs of gear
I know the V6 can handle weight, worried about the 2.7L
Will never haul. If I ever see myself getting into off roading to gain access to climbs then I might do some upgrades.

I wanted to add here that I recently drove from Fayetteville, AR to Joplin, MO and back in my SR 2.7 4x4 with my wife. I wanted to see if I could drive the hills at highway speed w/o downshifting and maintain my speed.

I did with no problem but had the mash a little further down on the pedal than usual. Elevation difference is 400ft with some decent grades.

Ours gets rally'd 1500 feet up to Mt Bachelor several times a week in 4x4 in the snow. Rarely need 3rd...unless there is a slowpoke on the road up.

Hehehe. Love the talk about climbing. I climb 5000ft every single day. Except for the days I stay at home.

My experiences driving through PA (four times this year), westward and into the wind involve 476 S to the main PATP and 476 N to route 81. Both routes are fairly similar, but the grades on 81 are much steeper (PATP is 3% max). I'd say 81 might get about double that at worst.

I start home at roughly 500ft, then north into the Poconos mountains. 2250 is about the max elevation on 81 ... then back down to 500ish and up to 2000+ again. Then it settles to around 1300 by Ohio, with some typical undulations along the way ... but flattens out toward the end.

I've never "had" to downshift to 4th, especially when cruise is on ... which means I can be somewhat ignorant to the fact that the truck is "floored". Speed would creep down, tempting me to downshift, but it would hold within reason of the speed limit on some very lengthy climbs (mile or two). The throttle, while in 5th gear is more like an on/off switch when going up hill. In tracking the relative throttle position on Torque, it'll just jump to 65% (this is the max reading) once it feels significant enough of an engine load.

Obviously a slow moving semi would cause me to downshift, but traffic toward the central part of the state is pretty light on 81.

i threw on heavier tires and i definitely am downshifting a lot on big hills/mountains. i dont tow, so the steep grades are the only time i ever roll my eyes at the 4banger. 99.9% of the time i love it and its perfect for my needs. on level ground its got really great pep with the 5speed.

Put the weight on, regear as needed. I like the simplicity of the 4 banger.

4WD. Had the same experience as you until I contacted John Coffaney at Freeman in Santa Rosa. Dude is basically giving away Tacomas right now. Best deal in CA if not the Western US.

Don't worry about towing. The 4-cyl does a GREAT job.

4-cyl does the same work as any 6, but on 2/3rd the fuel.

More or less. They added a vvt to the exhaust cams to boost it by 5 hp, and the R156 transmission is a mildly updated version of the same old R155.

That's what an extra... 14 (2.4) or 24 (2.7) horsepower will get for you. The updated version will get you 19 or 29 hp.

Yeah, all the "V6" guys who have never owned a 4-cyl and make false claims about how terrible the 4-cyl is. Just ignore them. They don't know what they're talking about.

Did you have a trade in? My experience was their new truck prices were good, but they offered shit on trade. They offered me $21k for my built 2014 4R TE... which ended up being $9k less than the trade in I got for it at SF Toyota.

No, but I would never expect a reasonable trade offer from a dealer anyway.

I had a 1st Gen V6 5 Speed and it was quite a peppy little truck, also you can see how it stands up against 2nd and 3rd Gen V6's in this video.

    I love mine.

The only thing I regret is getting the auto transmission, but ECT button/sport shift lets it rev higher.

My truck gets 24-25mpg on the highway (keeping at 65mph) with my P-rated 265/75r16 Toyo AT2 on SCS Five Star Wheels. The lighter wheels combined with these tires weigh 2 lbs less than the stock steel wheels and Hankook 245/75 ht tires.

^^^ Nice. I have a set of those same wheels. I also have a set of Toyo AT2, but they are 285/75R16. I'd bee taking those off and getting a set of 265/75/R16.

BTW, a white SR 4x4 Manual with convenience package and all-weather mats just showed up locally. Sticker is... $27,513.

I think they only offer the SR in white to be honest. That's the only thing I can find. Might have to wrap it :)

Toyota is weird with stuff like that in different regions, I just did a quick search for SR Manual 4x4s on Cars.com in my area and there was MGM, Silver, White, Red, and Black.
