Just put a brick on the skinny pedal. Not really sure what that pedal does, all I know is it makes the engine make more noise.

For $25 and 10 mins you can have cruise. See Moe's post on how to fit it.

Bit more involved with the manual, you need a clutch switch also.

No, not with the third gen. All you need is the stalk.

    2016 5spd 4x4 2.7L
I want to address the people complaining about the 2.7 being slow. Personally speaking, I'm a speed addict. Lots of autocrosses, HPDEs, formula racing schools, etc. I bought a 2.7L 5Spd 4x4 (with 255/75-17 AT tires), in part, to slow down my road habits.

I have 18,000 miles on it now. And in that time, I'm going faster than the flow of traffic 80% of the time. I'm always in the left lane. I regularly flash people who clog that passing lane as well. 75-80mph is not a challenge. The truck did it easily. All it requires is forethought. You need to consider your gear, desired maneuver, relative speed, etc in advance of a passing situation or a significant hill climb. If you don't like thinking when you drive - buy something else. Personally, I really enjoy it, and for the same reason I enjoy driving classic cars. The lack of immense power requires me to be connected and considerate of my vehicle's capabilities. I enjoy rowing the gears and putting effort into getting the most out of my 2.7L. Rarely, and I mean rarely, do I need to pull aside because someones faster than me or on my ass. I pass everything from Ferraris to gt3s. And why you might ask? How is this possible?! BECAUSE THERE ARE SPEED LAWS THAT PEOPLE ARE MENTALLY WIRED TO.

You're big bad 278hp v6 is capped to 55 or 60 just like all the 2.7Ls out there. Speed is not something you just buy. Speed is a part of who you are. It's a conscious decision to want speed more than legal protection, sometime safety. It's something that's inside you. If you want to go fast, you'll end up going fast. In anything. This alphamale v6 posturing is hollow. Yes, the engine has more power, but that doesn't mean you're faster. That doesn't mean you're better. It's just a different motor. The one thing you definitely have over us 2.7'ers is towing capability. If you're an average or sheepish person, you'll be going slow or average no matter what you buy. If you're someone who's concerned or motivated by the speed of your vehicle, you'll go fast no matter what you buy. Why on earth any Tacoma owner is worried about not being able to go fast enough is beyond me. You bough a pickup truck to go fast? Huh? Mind you - in the human history of motored vehicles - it hasn't been until the last 25% that we've been spoiled with numbers like 160hp and 278hp in a truck. This uber-reliable, efficient, and strong 2.7L in any other part of world history would be UNGODLY good. Our grandparent's generation was way tougher, way rougher, and they did wayyyy more with their hands... And their pickup trucks had 80hp if they were lucky... This society is so consumed with purchasing the biggest and fastest, with astronomical power stats, all while the operator is getting weaker and lazier. I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

A significant portion of this sub forum revolves around V6 & automatic tranny complaints. As an owner of a 4cyl manual, I've totally bypassed the main concerns about the new tacoma. I experience no failures, noises, problems, or annoyances. And when I compare mine to my two coworkers' TRD Sports, I also paid 50% less then them. The 2.7 5spd 4x4 is the best overall version of the 3rd gen tacoma without a doubt.

^^^ Dang, that was a good read. Thanks. I'm still here. In fact, I'm playing with numbers to make a final decision about ordering mine. I still have to consider I need to sell my 2001 while I wait for my new one to arrive. I should have a decision by this weekend. I'm considering everything.

So with the 17 the clutch switch is already there? Would make sense, seems it would be more costly to set up "not" to have something but they did it with the trailer wiring.
If that's the case, I'll probably look for a switch and stick it on there when I get the notion.

    2009 Tacoma regular cab 4x4
I have a 2009 regular cab manual, with a shell, full skids, sliders, winch, and front bumper, riding on 33s. I regeared it to 4.56, and it's awesome.

Slow in the mountains, but cruises at 90 on the freeway at sea level with no problem.

I love this truck. It wheels great, it looks awesome, has a full size bed that I load with tons of shit. I wish I could keep it forever.

I just had twins though, so it looks like I'll be selling.

If I was gonna buy a new truck and didn't have a family, I'd get the base tacoma 2.7 4x4 manual with the rear seat delete.

I went through this for a year before getting my truck. I wanted a black SR 5sp 4x4 with convenience package, But I need 4 doors for kids. If they made SR 4cyl 5sp in 4dr that's what I'd own. Ended up with a dcsb TRD OR 6mt that's been great for a year.

Get it! The 2015+ 2.7L is actually dual vvti like overseas and has more power some say. Although it doesn't say officially. The 5-speed is "new" over the 2nd 5-speeds.

Thats a great truck just get it and drive. I may get the same truck but maybe a 2019.

Yeah see, but that's a regular cab. I have kids and the whole family cannot fit in the access cab. But a least I can carry them here and there when I need to (not often). When the entire family is going out I'm banking on taking my wife's vehicle. Ideally, the V6 would be a "better" fit, except I worked out the numbers to the cent, including tax, and it's basically another $7,710... Not sure I want to go that high.

2016 cruise does not need the clutch switch so I assume 2017 does not either.

I test drove a 13' 2.7 manual, and I swear my 16' 2.7 manual would run circles around it.
