I'm looking at buying a 2006 Tacoma 4wd access cab long bed V6 automatic TRD Offroad with towing package. It has 240,000 miles and was manufactured in June of 2006. I know that 2005 and the early 2006 had head gasket issues, but the later 2006 like this one should be OK according to the thread on it here. I drove a 2005 for 10 years and I had to replace the head gaskets and the entire AC system because 2005 had weak compressors that grenade. Is the 2006 any different? Is there any reason to avoid 2006 models? Anything I should watch out for? How reliable are the transmissions? I do all my own work, but I don't want to do a lot of work on it anytime soon. I'm too busy with other projects.

This one has some minor body damage/dents but I don't care about that. I'm guessing that's bringing the price down and I'm going to scratch and dent it anyway. Pre-dented is a bonus in my book. The tire pressure light is on and it has new wheels from a newer Tacoma, can I just reset this myself? The frame has a little rust but no rot. Is $8500 a good price?

I have two 2006 in Desert Sand Mica. One I wrecked and one I bought to use to fix the other truck BUT I fell in love with the idea of keeping both. Now my dad and I can drive matching trucks, I'm gonna black out mine and chrome out his. Should be fun.

I've done power steering rack and suspension on the old one. Now it's getting body work. It's a salvage title anyway.

New truck needs Carrier Bearing and suspension. ABS Module started acting up and It's discontinued by Toyota. I pulled the fuse and the brakes feel much better.

8500 is a great price to me.....I'm not sure if I made a mistake getting an 06 verse a newer one but I love this truck so that all that matters to me. I hope to keep them going another 15 years or till gas is outlawed?

I had two TPMS codes that went away when I cleared the DTC's with a ODB scanner. It's been a couple hundred mile and they haven't come back. Not sure why but that worked for me. Go figure?
