I'm a new member, but dont actually own a tacoma yet.
I've been considering trading in my sedan for the tacoma 4x4 double cab
automatic. During the week i'm at an office job, but on the weekends,
I like to do projects, boating, etc.
My quesiton is what is your opinion of this truck as a good balance for everyday use and the weekend fun. I dont do off roading at all.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

    Don't do it!

You'll become addicted to all the little mods you can do... you'll run out of money, your wife will leave you, the bills will pile up, you'll forget to shave and people will mistake you for grizzly adams, birds will nest in your beards.

In all honesty though, you couldn't get a more balanced truck. You would be amazed at what you can do with a stock tacoma, so you probably wont find yourself in trouble. She tows a good load and is low maintenance. Also very comfortable compared to most trucks and gets alot better MPG. You should be able to get 21 MPG fairly easy.

Your situation is very similar to mine. I traded an '08 Altima for a new Tacoma. I lost quite a bit of fuel efficiency and the ease of driving/parking a small sedan. I gained the ability to haul materials for home improvement, don't have to worry about getting stuck in the snow, and finally have the truck I've always wanted.

For me it was a no brainer. I can afford the fuel. Plus my next trip to Moab will include some 4 wheeling.

Love this truck. Traded in a 4 door car for my 2010 Dbl Cab! have not regretted it at all!! But Brian is right.....the mod bug will bite hard and often!! It's like those directv commercials!! But stop thinking about it and "JUST DO IT!!"

Thanks for the information. I think i'm going to take it on a test drive this weekend. I'm going to have to get over the gas mileage issue, espicially since i would be coming off of a 30 mpg sedan.

I just traded in my Nissan Altima (which was a great, fun and trouble free car) for the exact truck you are thinking about. Couldn't be more pleased with its versatility and handling.

As others have stated, be prepared to spend plenty extra getting it how you want it. :)
