I don't think pistons systems are worth the extra $ to the average shooter. I've got a LWRC but I didn't NEED it.;)

All AR's are gas operated, most are imepingement system (blowback) but the new fad is gas piston (like an AK).

The latter is more expensive and reliable but the other is just fine for the occasional plinker and is time tested and true.

When they say gas operated, they usually mean 'gas piston operated'. Otherwise it's a direct impingment system which is 90% of all ARs.

Well what ya'll think the M&P15 or the M&P15T since it already has the quad rail like I was wanting anyway?

Ok I've had it with your mis-information and the shit you have posted in this thread. If you're not busting on someone then don't post >>
and then say at the end
If you're not busting on his chops then you wouldn't need to say it.

The advertisement states lowers are mixed; so it's not like they are selling complete DPMS guns and besides lowers don't usually have issues unless they are really screwed up. I think it was pretty clear PackerfanXD was talking about uppers since this whole topic has digressed into different uppers and the chart he posted only has 4 areas to judge lowers by. So how about you try and contribute something to the discussion rather than argue with everyone about stuff you don't know.

For the record I had a complete DPMS gun about 8 years ago when the quality of their firearms were better. But over the years they have slacked off and have lost the reputation they once had. Shit, I can remember when Rock River arms was right next to Olympic arms.

Sorry OP for getting off topic, but you would be wise to listen to Packerfan, he has more knowledge of AR's in is piss then this other guy could hop for.

If it was just a quad rail I'd say pass for now but since it's free floated I say get it.

I've heard good things about the SW MP15. I liked the feel of them when I picked it up at the NRA gun show last year.

Find one that you like then try and find it on-line. Better deals and same gun.

Check budsgunshop.com and some other e-tailers. I know buds ships most stuff for free and a FFL will only cost about $25 to transfer.

mine did on standard stocks, not now on MOE/CTRs.
as for SW-MP15s, ive shot one at the range, guy next to me had an optics ready one, I liked it. I feel they are a step above DPMS for sure. Lifetime warranty to boot.

Just read 6 pages and just about every 5th or 6th post made me laugh. Thanks guys. :D

    Educate yourself

Buying an AR in today's market is wholly dependent on what you want to do with the gun. This means both configuration AND manufacturer. If you are looking to shoot 200 rounds a year and drag it out at family barbecues to scare old aunt Edna then any POS will do and you should buy the cheapest DPMS/Olympic/Model 1 that you can find. By the same token a Colt 6920 is not the best platform for making 500 yard headshots on a prairie dog the same way a 24" stainless barrel gun with 25 power optic isn't what you want for home defense or carbine classes.

Figure out what you want to do with the gun and how much you want to spend. If it turns out that what you want is an M4-pattern carbine use the information linked to above to find the one that best meets your needs within your budget.

You can ask Rob why BCM isn't on the list since he's a member here. LWRC is like apples to oranges so it can't make this list (it's in a class of it's own;)).
