I'm satisfied with my 6MT Pro. Clutch accumulator delete and 2LO mod are musts, as well as a shift knob that isn't garbage (OEM is squared off, wtf really Toyota?!). Throw weight is light and a little long, but it's at truck, not a sports car. Off-road I really enjoy the speed control the manual gives me in 4LO. MPG is so-so, and slightly worse than an AT. That's down to the gearing, which is better for us off-road, but better for the AT in everyday driving.

The only unresolved complaint I have is the rev hang, even with a tune, but I've gotten used to it and don't notice it anymore. Well that, and the throttle pedal isn't in the best spot for heel and toe. A lot of companies fail here by using the same pedal box for AT & MT. Been contemplating figuring out if I can put a spacer behind that pedal since it's an electronic throttle, but at first glance it looks like stud length would be an issue.

I believe you. I had to throw mine in 2Lo the other day to back up a riverbank on my lot.

I don't use 2Lo often but it's a relatively quick and easy mod. I had the 2Lo mod in the garage well before the truck.

Like others have said...Talk to as many dealers as you can and get the ball rolling. My truck was a 7 month wait. The end of manual transmissions is near.

Edit: Oh yeah...a new knob. I'm not too fussy about knobs, I've never swapped one in any other vehicle, but I ordered a new one as soon as I got home with the truck. Not sure why they put a knob that's better suited to an auto transmission on a manual.

Seriously, that stock knob is the worst thing I have ever handled. Toyota was incredibly lazy here. It's clearly the AT knob redesigned to fit on the shifter. On the Pros the very least they could have done is shipped it with the smooth TRD ball.

Fortunately it's a standard M12x1.25, so I was able to throw on a cheap generic Delrin knob until I finally got my @7r41lbr34k3r knob.

I really like my manual. I have driven them all my life and for a truck, this one is pretty darn good!

Hopefully so I can add a 4.0L/5AT 4Runner to the stable while they're still being made!

What knob (Lol) did you end up getting? I want to change mine but haven't found what I want yet. I've seen little info on how to change it but not much. Something about turning the chrome plastic piece below the knob and then unscrew it?

Considering getting a six speed manual and actually finding one are too different things. If you want a PRO in 2023 I would also consider getting a money mint.. you either get super ridiculously lucky, you hound dealers, or you pay crazy prices

I have a Nissan Versa 5sp manual. If anyone's driven that, would you say it's similar to the Tacoma 6sp manual?

I don’t have a versa but have a mazda3 hatch MT, which is a similar size to the Versa, and no, not particularly similar. This drives like a longer throw truck, and the accumulator makes shift points a bit spongy, not near as tight.

for a truck though it’s fine, and beats the shit out of the AT regardless

I will say 1st and 2nd do work, in the Mazda I feel like I’m racing to 4th, with the Tacoma it’s very gradual

the 2024 tacoma pros will probably be a 4 cyl hybrid auto only and all 2024 tacomas will have rear disc and rear coil springs

OP I would contact your local Toyota internet sales manager a few times. Let them know you want a 6MT. My local dealership had one come through and the guy who ordered it couldn’t pick it up for whatever reason. It was nearly exactly everything I wanted, but is a Pro not Off Road, (and no bed mat.. who gets a Taco without a bed mat??) and the sales manager emailed and I went there right away.

The manual trans is pretty rare I guess but if you let them know they’ll keep an eye out for you. I don’t find a lot of enjoyment driving an automatic let alone the “one pedal” EVs but it seems the industry is going that way so they’re getting harder to find…

I have ~72k+ on my 2017 MT and love it. This MT is very smooth and enjoyable to drive daily, of course I NEVER see traffic and have 1 stop light ~10+ miles away
