Yea I have considered linking, but I wouldn’t do it till later on down the road as my truck is my dd and I just don’t have the funds for now. But yea man...Lt the rear. It will take a bit to get all the components, but that way you won’t live in regret. What front kit are you considering?

well when you sell your dmz SUA kit for linking, let me know:rofl:

At the moment probably TC or Camburg, mostly cause I haven't put much research or thought into the front.

Great wrote up guys. Was initial thinking about installing a lt kit, only because all the lift kits i find for my 08 says i must use 18 inch rims. I can not find a 18 inch steal wheel. I do alot of whealing mainly trails at low to slow speads. But destroyed too many non steal wheel to know when i hit dirt make sure im hearing steel. Anyone know of a kit to fit 35 inch tires and beat the snot out of the truck. IM NOT A MALL CRAWLER.

What lift kits are you looking at that say you need a 18" wheel? I've never heard of one requiring anything bigger than a 16".

    Tough country 6" kit
    Skyjacker 6"
Those are the two i can find. Can not believe my 93 pickup has more lift options than the 08 i just picked up.

If you're into serious offroading I'd stick with a 3" suspension lift and tub the firewall for 35's. It'll give you just as much ground clearance, but with a lower center of gravity. Here's a first and 2nd gen that have the setup:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mrbeggins-04-tacoma-build.269822/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/anthony250fs-4wd-dcsb-mild-expo-build.469149/

Look at bilstein 5100's if you don't want to spend a lot on coilovers and shocks and leaf packs (all-pro expo or dakars usually) or 3 leaf add-a-leaf's from wheeler's offroad, headstrong offroad, toytec lifts, all-pro offroad, or downsouth motorsports.

Those lifts are junk and meant for MALL CRAWLERS. You don't want those.

That is what i was thinking that is why i thought a lt kit would be the best fit. Till i read that lt kits are terrible for low speads. And with what i understand about suspension, pushing the outer arms down you limit the downward cycle of the suspension. Making a terrible ride. Proper suspension needs equal up n down movement.

Yes if your not going to be going offroading hard , jumps , high speed whoops. Its not worth the trouble. Depends what kind off offroading your gonna do?

Check this guy out - I wouldn't say they're terrible for low speeds - they have the same problems all ifs setups have for crawling - if that's your thing go sas.

But if you're not going fast, then there's no reason to waste the money.

LT isn’t terrible for low speeds, however from my understanding, It doesn’t do well for anything it’s not properly set up for. Most guys set up their suspension to perform well at high speeds or for whoops or for big air which would make low speed not the priority. And you’re not pushing down the arms when you go LT.. that’s what spacer lifts do. LT kits have more down travel than any other suspension system out there (except SAS).

That is why im thinking about a lt kit. I did a sas in the past was good in mud n rock but dd n snow it was not fun. I do have a solid axle out of a 79 series land cruiser with elocker but its about 6 inches narrower than the tacoma will work in my 93. Got it from doing a diesel swap for a buddy he had a first gen n wanted a diesel. Purchased a complete front end from jdm imports.

How high do people lift their LT kits. I don't want my truck to have the BROrunner look.

To where they have good clearance w/o cranking the coils so hard they are too hard / enough to get a good amount of up and down travel. Depends on what rear setup you go with as far as rake is concerned. Are you doing a rear lt at the same time? I don't hear too many 2nd gens having a hard time staying level with the DMZ or tc kit unless they have a lot of gear.

    Hey all,
I have 200k miles on my truck and its still running great! But the suspension needs some maintenance, so I'm thinking about up dating the whole thing. First of all, the guy I bought the truck from put a rancho leveling kit on it. I'm pretty sure that this is adding to the wobble I get when braking (rotors are fine), which pisses me off. Flat out, I cannot afford a LT kit. So I'm hoping someone can steer me in a good direction, like another forum page or build that fits my ticket. I like to drive fast on the freeway 90-110 mph, so I need something that will ride nice. I'm not a rock crawler, but I need to be able to get over some. I off road mostly for getting to remote fishing, hunting and camping spots. I currents live in AZ, but am moving to Massachusetts and am planning a road trip to Alaska. $5k is probably my max, I can turn a wrench and boss has a hydraulic lift, so I plan to do the install myself, minus welding. A nudge in the right direction would be much appreciated!!!

You could go with a +2" kit which is a little more mild. Total chaos has that kit and it gets 11.5" of travel. That' the kit I'm going with soon because it' still my daily driver and I don' go out to the desert often enough to justify a +3.5" kit

Do you mean the 2" LT kit? Wont't that still come out to about $8+ before labor, with all the other stuff necessary? Also, if you're gonna spend that much the 3.5" race set up is only $683 more; that's less than 10% difference, may as well go all in. just my 2cents.
