Yup, I'm going through this now. Went to the dealer back in October and put a $500 deposit down on a 2020 TRD Offroad, DCSB, Manual, Magnetic grey, with no options/packages.

The process as told to me by the dealer: the dealer will submit a "build request" to Toyota, Toyota will accept it, then an upcoming build will be allocated to you. After the request is accepted, expect 2-3 months before the truck is actually built/delivered.

So far it's been 2 months, and Toyota still hasn't accepted the build request. Dealer says 2 months is about the longest he's seen it take, but he's never had a request NOT be accepted.

I'm guessing all the manual builds for the December run had already been spoken for, so I'm having to wait for the next batch. At least I'm hoping that's what's happening... haven't seen any paperwork about any of this, except for a credit card receipt for my deposit, so I'm kinda going on blind faith for now.

I was told they build manual Tacoma’s in batches, hence the wait.

About once every 3 months is the way I was told when I ordered mine.

Idk if it has been recommended yet, but have you tried using cars.com to try and find one on the lot somewhere?
It's a long shot finding exactly what you want, but it's worth a shot.

In regards to ordering, when I got my Pro there weren’t any to be had nor any within the Southeastern network that the dealership could trade for. I had to put down $500 IIRC and wait two months for it to come in.

What I would suggest is to search on the Toyota website and filter out for exactly what you want and see if any are inbound. This is what I did with my 2020, found one that was 3 weeks out exactly as I wanted and went into the dealership.

First we worked out pricing, discounts and all that good stuff long before they knew a trade was on the table. At this stage, they evaluated my trade and we found there was a gap of a few thousand to cover. So now comes the fun part of figuring out who will eat the most of it. Due to the pressures of Toyotathon, they ended up eating it all.

From this point, we completed the paperwork although the truck was still 10-days out... But keep in mind, this wasn’t a special order, but a VIN’d vehicle in transport... I’d look to see if those exist first.

This is what I've been doing. There have been 2 that popped up in my area that I was interested in but both were gone within a day of being listed. I'm in no rush so I'm just going to watch listings until spring.

Ha. Just checked cars.com and found exactly what I wanted at a dealership 2 states away. Emailed the link to the dealer and asked if they can do a transfer.

How much does the truck build you want cost?

Assuming you want a silver 4x4 (like you currently have), the MSRP on toyota.com is $35,820 (before freight and taxes)

It says you're from Wisconsin... idk where, but here's a listing for about 6.5hrs from Lambeau Field for $33,965
    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...1=TACOMA&digitalRetail=true&clickType=listing

If you're not willing to go there to get that truck, your local dealer doesn't have to know that. I'd tell your local dealer you found this one, and that's what you want - but you prefer to work with someone locally. Right off the bat, it should save you close to $2000 without haggling much at all.

That's what I did with my 2017. I saved about $9000 CAD ($6800 USD) when it was all said and done. Did the same thing on my previous car, and saved about $1500 off MSRP. All depends on what you can find as a comparable.

Waited 6 months for my WRX back in 2014 (2015 model year). The ship it was on (from Japan) got caught in a hurricane, and I was told I might have to wait another 8 months if it got damaged. Lucky for me, everything was fine and I actually took delivery on my birthday.

Bed lighting and tailgate lock I can do without and add at a later time. I'm just lazy.

I'll defiantly keep this in mind if I find what I want at a dealer that's not local!

I emailed 5 dealers. 3 were willing to play. I knew that my MT OR was going to be a special order or a regional dealer trade ahead of time, but I did not bring that issue up. Price, price, price first. Let them commit to a price, then you can work out delivery. I got about 10% off MSRP. It helps to be a little flexible on some portion of the build because they are going to want to give you options. I was hard on the features (Premium and Tech packages), but had 3 color choices.

I ordered mine in September 2015 and put nothing down. I picked all the options I wanted and the dealer placed the build order. I negotiated price once it was delivered which took about 5 weeks.

Nice choice. I assume the technology package includes the new LED headlamps?

Yes, the technology package with options does. That was one feature I definitely wanted.

Awesome. We’re you able to pre-negotiate the selling price?
