After looking at the Canyon and Colorado; I'm leaning toward the Tacoma for a upcoming purchase. I'm looking at the TDR but not sure if there are any major differences between the Pro or Off Road. Other then softer suspension and a few cosmetic changes is there anything else? It won't be taken off road that often but would like to hear actual drivers experiences on what you would recommend.

The difference in pro and the TRD-off road.

A few cosmetics and some better suspension parts.

Seeing how you said you wont go off roading much. The pro is a great truck. But so is the off road.

You will get a lot of haters on the pro. Bottom line let me sum it up for you.

Yes, YOU can build a better off road truck with start of a TRD package. But thats if YOU do all the work. Factor in your time and cost of parts its about the same of the pro.

In the long run, you wont get your money from the upgrades back on the TRD. You will easily see a higher resale value on the pro.

If you want to know all the differences, search this forum.

Good luck! If I had the money to spend, I would buy the pro. But just as happy with my TRD off road

TRD pro has Cosmetics, better suspension, Leather Seats, TRD Exhaust, TRD intake, and no moonroof option. TRD Offroad would be the way to go if you wanted to put your own suspension, otherwise PRO

If you plan to customize your own truck and build a nice suspension package/lift then go with an offroad. With a pro, you'll end up throwing out the pricey suspension and replacing. Also sunroof is nice on the TRD...but no leather.
If you must have the leather, badging, and don't care about sunroof then the Pro might be for you. Shame to replace such nice suspension that is already tuned for the tacoma. Pro with a nice lift would be killer. Imo they are meant to be bought and left as is.

Actually if he wanted to put in his own suspension wouldn't he be better off with an SR5 or SR?

For his usage, I would only get the TRD Off Road if he liked the better seats and other things (outlet in bed, etc...). Not if he is going to change the suspension.

No, he would lose crawl control, mts, and rear locking diff. He did not mention anything about wanting an SR SR5 he said TDR but he meant TRD

It took me a minute to figure out what TDR was. For some reason I wasnt realizing the typo for TRD. Once I realized came back into the thread to see your post and felt like a bigger idiot. Gotta love your brain after a long day at work.

TRD exterior cab badges, 3D TACOMA tailgate emblems, Weather Tech trailer hitch step / bumper guard.
Find a pre-owned 2016 Tacoma Sport with Hood Scoop and sunroof. If you don't see yourself ever doing any serious off roading then you don't need crawl control and locking differential. Determine if you need a long bed or short bed and weather or not you need extra cab or quad cab. More than likely you will change the wheels and tires and probably some kind of moderate lift down the road for looks like most guys do. Buying used if you can find one...will also allow you to upgrade your stereo for a even better touch screen head unit that has apple car play and getter navigation etc. You will save money this way and end with a truck that fits your personal taste and is very capable off road or in snow. Good luck

I agree that if you are never going off road then why wast the money and deal with the extra expense of dealing with all the added maintenance. In that case the sport fits your needs. I would do a lot of considering about a radio change, as a lot of the truck can be configured via the radio.
