Debt is the American way. You don’t win if you die debt free, your still dead.

You are probably having more fun if you are in debt blowing 10G’s in Vegas over 2 days than all that saving and scrimping people say to do. I say buy another Tacoma for the weekends, have dinner at a steakhouse and head to the airport without luggage. This is living.:eek:

This is the last place you want to invite opinions on finances. You get them even when you don't ask for them.

The OP is the one who brought up wanting to be debt free, not me! Some see the wisdom in what he is trying to do but many (and I do mean many) don't agree and live their lives mired in debt. I worked in banking for a long time and we absolutely loved the latter group! Keep running up those credit card balances people, my vacation home needs a paint job and all new furniture.

I'd sell if the paint is going to be giving you issues. Trying to sell it later on would cause a ton of buyers to go find another Tacoma. Paint is expensive and Tacomas are quite plentiful. Then look at buying another one if you want to stay in a truck.

You are correct sir, he did invite it. I was in no way singling you out. Since you were in banking (as was I in a past life), you know about interest rate spread. Sometimes it pays to take on debt for a vehicle, like when they offer you 0% financing. Many people do howver, over-obligate themselves with unsecured debt to the point where they can barely make minimum payments. That's not a good thing.

Has anyone tried Lemon law in regards to the messed up white paint? Clearly there's an issue there since so many people are reporting it. I'd assume someone at this point would have tried it out to see if the courts can force Toyota to fix the situation.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If you don’t have a smile on your face when you get out of (any) vehicle, get the fuck rid of it.

If you use the lemon law you go through arbitration, not the courts.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
As others asked, what do you need? Do you need a truck? It’s currently truck selling time.
I was in for my 35k service so I made the rounds at the dealership. I’m due to turn in my lease next month. They offered me $4000 more than I negotiated for back in ‘19. And $11k more than my current buy out. But there is nothing out there to buy. And if I do find it I’m not getting it for anywhere near my $29k buyout. But I need a truck. Mine is set up to tow my boats and travel trailer.
If you don’t need a truck and drive local, sell truck and get yourself a few year old Corolla. Ride this impending economy crash out debt free. Go new fancy car shopping on the rebound side when things will be give away priced.

As much as a corolla would make more sense financially, I just like truck based Toyota's and the cargo room.
Wish I had someone to set me straight when I was younger. My dad filed for bankruptcy many many years ago.
We're in a society where debt is the norm, but it can spiral out of control for some people. I'm just putting my foot down now with debt and then passing on the knowledge to people who I'm close with so they don't go down that path.
That's one way of looking at it

Priority in order! Family first, always. A new truck? Nice to have! It is just transportation.
Old use trucks can do the same thing as a new truck. Might not look as good as a new one, might not smell as good like new one, But as least you will have more money for food, clothes, and other things.

Finance freedom a dream for many……

First it sounds unbelievable you have a $600 truck payment. I guess it was a decision you would like to reverse. Downsizing is a good idea but you’ll need to get to $300 to save anything really, if you can get a trade in for an older Toyota you’ll also save on insurance. If you just want to save $100 there are easier ways. Stop smoking and or drink if you do. Again to save $100 will not solve your problem. Large cuts in expenses will be your friend.

Keep it if everything else runs good on it. Have you looked around at some of the Fords, GM and Dodge truck's paint jobs of the same year as your Tacoma. Well I have seen some rust and paint peeling on a few of them but not too many on Toyotas and other Japanese makes. Just saying.

I also learned about finances the hard way. Glad I was able to pull myself out of it and now will make sure my boys learn the right way. Realizing it and wanted to get out of it is the first step!
