Considering selling my truck because of bad paint quality and wanting to get out of debt

What about if you wrapped the truck in a similar White wrap?

It isn't helping with paying any debt down, but will make you forget about the paint.

Real world living can become expensive!

Living in your means requires sacrifices.

A decision is to be made , Once made? “Relief”. And a “piece of mind”

You’re out of debt, keep the truck. You always have the option of a paint job.

You sound on the younger side, invest in 401’s. And down the road, if you can afford a good lump sum, invest in a Jackson Annuity or the like. Some don’t like it, but we do. In this economy, it’s likely the 250,000K we put in would have been gone. It’s nice to get a check every month.

Yes, we can die tomorrow and they pocket. But so does everyone else. We’re either 6’ under, or dust in the wind.

Enjoy that truck. You almost own it!

Haiku? I had to look that up, a type of short form poetry, originally from Japan.
Three rules of Haiku 3 lines, 17 syllables.
first line is 5 syllables, second line is 7 syllables and last line is 5 syllables.

Thank you I learn a new word.

i did not to use my speaking to be point blank to anyone. I want people to think, there is always choices.
Sorry i I do have a hard time expressing my thoughts.

Point blank or Hint? How would you like to be told?

Hint - This reminds me of when i got my first full time job at a hardware business. 18 years old, living on my own.

After a few weeks of working there, A old man ( co- worker) came up to me and said “ boy you do not know how to work” and he walk away.

Took me me two weeks to get the courage to ask ? “ What do you mean I do not how to work?”

His answer change my life “forever” .

Glad he give a “Hint”. Saving my job.

    Fascinating

I prefer, to use paragraphs. That group together similar thoughts.

    To communicate effectively.

Also a teacher once told me, “punctuation is important.”

We can't bust heads like we used to.

    But we have our ways.

One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere.

Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe.

So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days.

So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time.

Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say.

Now where were we... oh yeah.

The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.

They didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

Shop it around to various dealers and if you get a really good offer, sell it. You will only suffer with the paint issues. You can drive a gas mileage beater for a while and buy a new Taco when gas drops again.

    Hey, listen!

Now, my story begins in 19-dickety-2.

We had to say ‘dickety,’ ‘cause the Kaiser had stolen our word ‘twenty.’

I chased that rascal to get it back but gave up after dickety-six miles…What are you cackling at, fatty?

    Too much pie.

    That’s your problem.

    Now, I’d like to digress

from my prepared remarks to discuss how I invented the ‘terlet.’

    Stop your snickering!

I spent three years on that terlet!”

You can still get a new corrola with a manual, FYI. Both a base model all the way to a loaded one. I genuinely considered it for a while.

When deciding on taking out debt and getting nice things now, or sacrificing and working hard and delaying gratification, I always ask myself this:

If some fat, old bald-fuck from the future stepped out of a glowing orb and said, "give me all your nice things to take back to 2035 with me," would you do it, or toss him $2 and tell him to buy a wig since that bald spot is an embarrassment?

Seriously though, you'll have to decide if having a truck versus a Corolla or whatever is worth what ever it's costing you. Seems like you know the risk and rewards of each option. You could also consider something like the Ford Maverick as a compromise between a truck and Corolla (if you can even buy them still).

I just had my 17 Tacoma with 30000 miles on it at the dealership because of the paint starting to separate on the roof. This truck is garage kept and hasn't been driven in the winter the last 3 years. It is always clean and waxed. I was told Toyota wont fix the paint either. Bad timing on their part. After buying nothing but Toyotas since 1989 there is a new Mazda CX5 sitting in the garage now next to the Tacoma.

Yes the dealers are sometimes penny wise pound foolish.we had purchased 6-7 Toyotas. We now have a new Honda CR-V (replaced highlander), BMW 325ci (rather than a toy convertible). And now only recall work at the Toyota dealer on Tacoma. They can keep their “free oil changes”

Also on the paint thing- my mom drove a 70k f150 king ranch and had massive issues with paint flaking and chipping. Take that as you will.

Good for you for adopting the credit free lifestyle! Others may have said this already but:
    • For replacement of the current truck, consider trade in for the lowest mileage, late year 2nd Gen 2011-2015 you can find. The high prices for both will cancel out.
      • I’ve had a new 2007 I got 351K miles out of and it’s still running fine in the next town over. I currently have a 2015 I’ll keep indefinitely- no issues with paint, maintenance is easy.
      • 2nd Gen forum here can help solve any issue.
    • Once you don’t have installment payments, expect your credit score to take a hit. I’ve dropped 50-60 points from the mid 800s since paying off my mortgage.

Sounds like you are ready for some changes and truly living within your means, which few people do. If you have other debt besides the truck, I'd absolutely sell it. If you don't, I'd probably sell it.

I bought a 2002 CRV with 170k on it for $3k a couple years ago. I put some work into, but it's been completely reliable. It gave me a new appreciation for 90's-2000's Hondas.

Back to debt and finances-I think you would benefit from listening to Dave Ramsey or the money guys. Their ideas can help give you direction and maintain momentum now that the fire is lit.

Happen to my son, His credit card scores drop once he paid off his truck and student loan. Sad situation” , once out of debt? When your credit card scores drop. Making you a risk and getting a higher interest rate.

These big companies, always finding ways to collect more money out of you! They say it best to use your credit cards as often as possible. Ok to pay it off at the end of the month.

No debt , is not a good sign to creditors? Correct me please if I am wrong?

Most true statement ever said, but also not always realistic. I agree 100% though. I love my Tacoma. Every second of driving it is fun. I always look back after parking it. My favorite thing is to pull up just a bit to close to smaller cars like a BMW 3, Miata, or a Civic and make him feel like he is in a toy car.

But, some can only afford transportation from a to b. Then a reliable car is in order, any car.
