    More food for thought:

I honestly doubt you'd see that 3500 dollar savings over 5 years. We're talking about a difference of 700 a year IF this is correct, which in my opinion those Tacoma numbers are inflated. I don't make a ton of money, but I'd probably be willing to pay the extra 700 a year.

There are a few reasons I don't drive the Tundra. Mainly due to its size and aftermarket support, but if I could snap my fingers and get the 4.7 or 5.7 V8 in my Taco and pay what you pay in gas I would do it in a heartbeat.

Those tundras are rated like 14 city 17 highway, so I would guess 15 mixed. All this is assuming stock. A 3rd gen taco should get 21 combined and 23 highway (prerunner).

I have never gotten anywhere near 18mpgs in my truck when it was stock.. more like 15.3 average.

But, the tundra is an extremely gas thirsty, underpowered and outdated truck. No way I’d ever get a tundra unless they completely redesigned it.

My buddy’s TRD pro tundra got 10-11mpgs stock... not sure how they could see 15 either lol

You'll miss the room and oomph of the V8. You'll regret it for sure.
Of course members here will say switch to the smaller slower Tacoma.

If you get shit gas mileage on the Tundra, you will get shit gas mileage on the Taco. Dont believe the dudes on here saying they get 20mpg , they drive 55mph on the highway so you know their type.

At the end of the day you want to switch...to save on gas?!? Lameeee

You are quoting a prerunner? The OP drives a Tundra and tows, why on earth would he get a prerunner?

    Exactly. Its a waste.

If OP told us he wanted to fit on trails better it'd be a different story. Otherwise keep the V8. The truck will make up for its gas guzzling with longevity. Some guys buy new cars every couple of years, you can run a Toyota V8 to 300k and beyond.

Why not, he didn't saw he needed a 4WD. He said he wanted to save gas, a prerunner can get a mile or two better on gas than a 4WD.

Yeah I get what you are saying.

I just dont get how someone can go from a nice large v8 powered truck to a small somewhat underpowered midsized.

It makes sense to go from midsized to fullsized, but when one drives a fullsized their entire life going down to a midsized is big pill to swallow.

I downsized from a titan an I can tell you I experienced way better mileage. The Nissan averaged 13mpg an stock Tacoma was getting 18-20 the way it sits now I get 16-17.
You will miss the extra room an power of the tundra but ease of parking an hell even washing life is so much easier.

That's true. He can still get respectable numbers. I posted earlier about what I get, so he has options at least.

I went from a 2008 Dodge Ram to a 2014 Tacoma. I've had the Tacoma for 6 months now and I am just now starting to warm up to it. Gas mileage isn't that much better, less room in cab, less room in the bed, can't tow as much, and still long enough to be a pain in some parking lots. If you like the full size truck, stay with it, IMO.

    Howdy,
I went from a 2012 hemi powered Dodge to a 2012 Taco. Both 4wd and both good vehicles. I sure have been glad of the trade since day 1. I get better mileage and the Taco is sure better off road. I have never been happier than with the Taco!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a goodun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
