That can't be an SR. that looks like a base of the base truck. Plain matte black fender flares, charcoal grille surround and plain ass front valence spells base model to me. Base steel wheels too.

SR's have color matched flares, valence, grille surround....basically a sport without the added accoutrements. They also have the smoked headlights if I recall.

Searching for Tacoma Base does come up with the right pictures. I was looking for the cheapest double cab 4wd I could find because wheels and bumpers will be changed, I just don't love the different color surround.

You can find color matched surrounds pretty cheaply around here.

what's the difference between an SR5 and the base model exactly? I have the SR5, and I am hard pressed to tell the difference between mine and this one, besides the obvious color difference (Pyrite Mica)

It must be a smaller engine?, that PDF file states DC doesn't offer the 4.0 L V6....

Nothing to do with the engine. Base lacks some things interior wise like variable speed wipers, etc. Also you notice the base has flat black fenders and front lower valence. Also has a charcoal color grille surround. Should have a primer black rear bumper too.

Your Sr5 should at least have color matched fender flares, chrome grille surround, color matched lower valence, along with variable windshield wipers, cruise control, etc.

ahh yes, im surprised the base model doesn't carry any of those... mine does have the chrome grille (although I wish it didn't) lol. Variable wipers have been a topic for discussion around here that I have seen in my brief tenure on this forum, seems like it would be hard to imagine the truck without them (a lot of frustration from people). cruise control I have as well.

It appears to be an unpainted flat black plastic. This one does have cruise control and has two speeds for the wipers which is all i need

SR5 is the name given to the convenience package. Stuff like power windows, intermittent wipers, cruise control, etc. The name goes way back to the 70s and 80s and stands for "Sport Rally 5 speed" and meant the same thing. So, on this particular truck, it does not have cruise control, intermittent wipers, might possibly not have keyless entry, but it looks like it has power windows as I couldn't imagine putting manual roll down windows on a double cab.

As for the unpainted fenders, I believe that's where the "base model" term comes in. I'm not entirely sure what would designate one taco from having unpainted fenders and bumpers from the other, but I know for sure that SR5 denotes the convenience package

$27 grand for a base model. Youd have to be out of your fucking mind. Way too high of a price.

Perhaps, but what it's lacking isn't all that important to me and it's been hard to find a late model, 2nd gen double cab for $27k

Don't grossly over pay because you are getting impatient. I got my TRD Sport for a grand more than that.

Your original post said you wanted the cheapest price. If you are willing to pay that then at least get a sport or offroad and get what you pay for.

If this is a base model then the thousands youd be overpaying could have gone to those new fab bumpers. Just sayin. Negtiate that price.

Ok guys, I might have figured this out... I looked up the VIN number and it says that it's a "Double Cab Convenience Extra Value Package" which I have never even heard of, and includes the rear privacy class with the sliding window, the cruise control, and keyless entry. Non-SR5 tacomas come with a one piece back glass that is not a privacy glass. This website also says that it is the "base type" model, which explains the unpainted fenders. It sounds like it's just a step below the SR5 package... If I were you, I'd just pass on this. At least get the SR5.

Here's where I found the info:

I find this amusing that one post says how awesome the people are and the very next post says I am out of my fucking mind. I'm on the T4R and a lot of those people are on here so I know there are great people here, and who knows I might very well be out of my mind.

27k is what I have been looking to buy a SR5 4x4 or TRD for. That is way too much money for that truck with those miles. Expand your search. Look around the Atlanta and Augusta areas, especially.
