Cause you're driving it like a 2nd gen!

It really runs better when it's wrapped up higher anyway

I'm not sure why so many people have "issues" with this tranny shifting gears a lot.. It's designed to do that to save gas...!!
I don't really care how many times my tranny shifts, now that "I" have filled it (was low from the factory).. It can shift till the cows come home...I don't care... as long as I get good MPH...!! If I need to move to get onto the Freeway...I floor it... it moves real well.

I got no problems.... I wish you other guys good luck.... Hope yours comes around...

EDIT..PS.. I get about 23 MPG CDN average and have got 28.5 MPG once when I "babied" it......

Conventional wisdom? I grew up thinking a hunting transmission was a sign you were lugging the motor or about to burn something up.

Oh how the times have changed.

CDN? I drove 300mph round trip today doing 70mph. Got 20mpg on the tank per the truck calculator.

Not really, just as a 3rd gen with a single OD instead of 2.
Two OD gears never made sense unless you're trying to squeeze out the lowest rpms at speed for fuel efficiency. If I'm on the flats, no problem but in the hills, 5 gears are the way to go.

I've burned up two 700R4s and a turbo 350 with that logic.

    But times have changed.

Any time an automatic shifts it's causing wear. Their has to be slip involved to make it work, otherwise, it would jerk. Slip equates to wear. No different than riding the clutch to get a boat out of a ramp. Unless something has drastically changed, there are clutch packs inside that are probably 1/3 the diameter of a manual clutch. I'd rather burn some extra fuel verses shifting just to pull up a little hill with no more payload than three people at 70MPH.

Have you given any thought to a MT? I know rowing a stick sucks but I've been very impressed by my Taco and would put it up against my pop's 2012 Ecoboost.

Absolutely cannot do that. My wife will not drive a standard and it's her truck.

The point of this thread was to help me reduce 3 vehicles down to 2. Civic, Mustang, Tundra, reduced to Civic and small pickup. The Tundra and Mustang sold yesterday, so it has become reality. You all have helped me a lot. I would have never considered the Nissan and now, that's what we're buying. I probably would have bought a 2015 Tacoma. I even researched the Colorado and we looked at them a couple of times but never drove one. They appeared larger than we wanted. I searched the Chevy forums and looks like they are having issues as well. I researched so much that I think I have issues confused between the different trucks. Anyway, I'm getting an extremely old design that I will probably have to keep many years to get my money's worth. It will be my luck they will completely redesign it next year. If it does what I need, I don't mind keeping it a long time. We had the Mustang 11 years and I'll miss teasing her about the handlebar on the trunk to push it.

I have a 2016 Sport, Access Cab, MANUAL . with 31,000 Miles on it. and have NO ISSUES. - I drive on a single lane, grave mountain road several times a week - The Tundra is just too big and bulky for what I do. The 3.5L engine is a high-winder, ie, the torque and HP are above 3500 RPM. Those that bitch about these trucks do so because they bought an automatic that is controlled by an over active and intrusive computer. Trust the computer between your ears and buy the Manual. As you can tell by reading the comments on this forum. Those that have a M/T are pleased. This is my 5th Toyota Pickup and is clearly the best. If it were totaled tomorrow - I'd buy another. Nothing wrong with your choice. I had an Xterra with that motor and loved it. It had some issues around 1200 mi., but was fine after that. Best of luck.

I tow a lot, and have an auto with no problems. I simply use it the way the owner manual tells you to and let it do its thing. Too many people think they know what it should be doing, instead of letting it do what it is designed to do.

I can see that. I test drove and really liked it other than the tranny.

I totalled my 2005 Tundra Double Cab TRD 4x4...I LOVED that truck. I just don't like the new Tundra's, they are just too big, so it was a new 2017 Tacoma TRD OR LB for me. I have 300 miles on it and so far I like it but I do miss the power and the cab space from the Tundra. The 1st Gen DC Tundra's were the perfect size truck IMHO. When driving in town (or mountains) I run in ECT mode...when on the interstate I go back to normal mode. This makes the driving experience much better for me.

What is ECT mode? I asked the dealer and they didn't know.
