I LOVE the way my Tacoma looks, but two things are seriously bothering me. First, the crappy gas mileage. I have a 100 mile round trip commute every day, and I didn't expect to get 24 MPG, but 15 is killing me. Yes, I know I have big tires, but I was getting 17-18 before the lift. Second, the constant shifting in and out of O/D at highway speeds. I feel like I am fighting the truck. In a weak moment, I went and drove the diesel Canyon, and loved it. My biggest concern is the complicated nature of todays diesels, which is what steered me away from it when I bought the Taco. Anyone know someone with a GM twin diesel? I'd like to know how they like it. I went on to the GM forum, and people seem very happy with them, not nearly as many complaints as there are on here. They are averaging 25-26 in them, per the forum and Fuelly.

The purpose of this thread is to get input from people that have had experience with the GM, or know someone with one, not trash Toyota.

Seems like you already made up your mind. I say go for it if you can take the hit financially.

The diesel is a $4000.00 option on the GM trucks. That's a lot of gas. I work at a GM shop and we had one that was so messed up, GM had to buy it back, however, all of the other trucks we have sold have been trouble free so far.

It would be interesting to see the data on GM lemon vs Tacoma Lemon.

However, they guard that data with fierce security ;)

I thought about both before I bought my Tacoma. Like lotuscupcar mentioned, I did not like the higher beds. The resale value was the reason I stuck with the Tacoma. After taking hits on previously owned domestics and luxury...and seeing how my parents Toyota's held their value, it was a no brainier for me.

I do lease a 2015 Traverse, and although not a Colorado, I can speak that Chevy reliability and quality on newer cars has improved.

When I worked for Chevy, the Colorado's were the biggest POS's. I'm sure they've come a long way since then, and Chevy makes a pretty solid diesel.

I can only add that I was debating between a diesel Canyon and Tacoma. I won't go down every list as to why I chose the Tacoma but I can say the Diesels are struggling in maintenance and if they can't figure out the large diesels (that they have been making for years) how can they figure out a small one. There are so many regulations on them that they pretty much fail all the time.

As far as gas mileage I also drive 100 miles round trip and can say I get about 20 on a good day and 18 on a bad day, this includes bumper to bumper traffic. That being said at the end of the day I didn't buy my truck for mpgs. If I'm worried about commuting I'll buy a beater car.

The resale was a huge reason why I went for the Tacoma, but the mileage and trans have me considering the change. I'll keep a truck longer if I like it.

I see a lot of people wanting a rugged truck with great MPG! If MPG is so important buy a Prius!

I've seen soooooo many complaints about 3-4mpg loss like damn.
