If i was doing that level I would go with a different color too.

Interesting. I just looked at my window sticker. Paint code is 0040. Sticker on door jamb says 040.

Same. I love the color just not the way the paint itself holds up. But I don’t know if I could stomach the cost of a complete repaint in a different color.

Im sure Toyota wouldn’t cover the costs of the doors and fenders for a color change and everything would come out of pocket. Also, I think the colors won’t match with the new paint that’s why I asked if anyone is gonna pay extra to do the rest of the truck

Retired car painter over here. A good painter can match any color IMO

I wonder if Toyota is going to color match the rest of the truck or just paint it with the new super white paint. If they just repaint with their new super white, I’m sure it won’t match. We’ll see what the plan is when they send out another letter

When vehicles come into shop for repair it’s up to the painter of each shop to identify color code and match accordingly. Most of the time colors need to be tinted for appropriate match by painter.

I just received the Toyota letter today saying my VIN is part of the list. Not sure if I sb happy cuz they are working on the problem or if I should be more concerned my 2020 is going to peel.soon. No issues yet that I can see.

So my car is on the list, currently peeling, yet because they haven't sent out a letter yet saying their is a remedy they can't do anything about it - total complete BS. I should have bought a Raptor. My truck is starting to peel bad on the driver side rear door. What a pain in the ass. I have been considering buying a Supra for a dealer and if they don't make this right I will look at another manufacturer.

The company I work for has two Tacomas and two Rav4s in the year range where white paint is an issue, two of which are showing the flaking (one has flaking on nearly every metal painted panel except the tailgate). We just got four letters this week about the incoming paint recall issue, one for each vehicle.

Thanks for this update, and very sorry to hear you’re 4 out of 4. I was wondering if other vehicles were affected but I never got around to looking it up. Makes me wonder how this is not a class action lawsuit at this point.

So far our Rav-4s aren't showing the paint issues fortunately, it's mainly been one truck getting it pretty bad and one just starting to show a few spots of flaking. The one getting it bad is unfortunately the one I drive, but in a way that's better because it's clued me into this issue and let me observe it playing out first hand.

I don’t recall seeing a post about the issue on the front doors. See the picture below of the driver’s side front door after I washed it today. My truck has already had the front fenders, gas tank door, and both passenger rear doors repainted.

That's I think the first photo I've seen of paint flaking in the tops of the doors, most of the time it's seemed to be wind exposed surfaces and below the windows.

I recently photo documented the two vehicles from my company that are showing this issue to share with our other two sections so they can watch for it and document if it shows up, so figured I'd share here too.

All 4 of my doors peeled from the top and bottom, not the sides. Both my fenders peeled from where they bolt on to the edge where it meets with the hood. I use a 040 touch up paint I bought on Amazon to mask the damage a bit

This problem goes back years and across all models. There's even a Toyota letter that went out in December 2019. Must be like every other recall/warranty extension - the problem continues until the cost of repair becomes more expensive than the (anticipated) savings. Here's a headline from 2020 before Sequoia's, Tacoma's, and Tundra's were added:

Toyota's paint-peeling problem to be covered under 'unprecedented' extended warranty for certain models

Extended warranty includes certain years of Camrys, Corollas, RAV4s, some as old as 2008

Complaints at Toyota Nation go back to 2010. And not just white, also some gray and blue. I had to stop reading. :(

    F’in pissed off.

I thought I might be in the clear. Walked out to my truck after work and noticed the paint literally flaking off the passenger side rear door.

Sorry man, it really does suck. Make sure you open a case with corporate if you haven’t already to get your name on a list when (if) a repair ever gets released.
