thanks. I called this morning. Toyota rep basically said there is another letter coming….

when that will come she didn’t know, I guess I’m a little less worried since it sounds like they will cover it. Apparently fenders and hood too so I will need to do a thorough check when all this rain stops.

How did you “open a case?” She didn’t ask me about that.

Didn't want to "like" your post, but definitely acknowledge. This sucks.

I said something along the lines of “I’d like to open a case so that I can be notified in the event of a fix”. The only reason I did this is because I was the 3rd owner of the truck and I wasn’t sure how meticulous Toyota updated owner records in the event they sent a letter out. Granted I did this a full year ago when the peeling started and Toyota didn’t acknowledge the issue

still hoping against hope that they'll add the 2nd gens to the list...took a look at my truck today after the heavy rains all week and the hood front edge is worse than ever, large cookie sized pieces of bare metal exposed when before it was minor chips. the edges around the door windows are also spreading further.

    yay

Since I posted about my case getting created I've experienced even more bubbling and peeling around the windows on both driver and passenger sides :(

Not something touchup paint can compensate for...

Yup...that why I was looking at it this morning, to see what could possibly be fixed with touch up paint for the time being.

Verdict is...virtually none of it. Anywhere that is peeling is peeled way too large to make that viable, places like along the door windows where it's smaller spots, the surrounding areas are already lifting off and just need a strong breeze to flake off. So i would need to remove even more paint before I could touch it up.

I took it upon myself to repair my flaking paint. I figured its only gonna get worse and bigger over time so even if I mess up then whatever. Here is my before during and after results of using a color match can of paint

Thanks, gonna try and buffer it etc. later. As long as it stops the flaking from spreading than im happy.

Im sure some of you guys can do a better job than I did, it was my first time repairing paint on a vehicle. Tip for anyone thats gonna attempt this. Be patient and let the paint dry before you move onto the next step, i rushed a little, you cant see it from far away but I had a tiny bit of paint run. Nothing too bad though def better than big flakes.

I called them (800-331-4331) earlier today. They said there was no recall for my truck but that it is a known issue (I wasn't surprised) . He said I should go to the dealership and see if it is on their system. (Um, OK? because maybe the dealerships in my area decided to group together and address this for the locals?) Then he said if a recall doesn't show up at the dealership to call him back.

Another update: Toyota repainted my driver side rear door in summer 2022 (see post #242 of this thread). Fall 2023 I noticed a quarter sized piece of clear coat flake off the passenger side rear door while washing the truck. Brought it up to the same dealer and they said it wasn't covered but the service advisor seemed less knowledgeable than the SA that helped with my earlier claim. A couple months later I received the same letter as many of you that Toyota is aware of the paint issue and they are working on a resolution. I was just at the dealer this week and spoke with another SA and mentioned the letter which he stated he wasn't aware of. He asked me to send him a picture of the letter so he could look into it. The next day before I was able to send him a picture of the letter he texted me saying that he spoke to Toyota Warranty Department who stated that any pre-authorization of the customer support program at this time is on hold and all vehicles affected by the paint issue will have to wait until the release date from Toyota on the paint program at which point another letter will be sent out.
