Consolidated Super White 040 Paint Issue/Failure Thread - With Toyota Corp. Update

Everyday they put it off probably reduces the amount of these still on the road by some %. The longer they put it off the better (as far as their concerned). I think the only thing that will make them take action is a lawsuit. Im suprised some lawyer hasnt picked it up.

Clearly they dont care that much about if affecting new sales.

 

We have a 2016 RAV4 we bought new, and it is perpetually parked on the driveway, under the Sacramento hot sun.
Paint is fine, but head lights are starting to cloud over.

 

Is the paint issue just confined to the Crew Cabs?

 

Hey all. Just purchased a used 2017 Tacoma DCLB in super white. I have no idea how I didn’t notice at the dealership but the chipping inside the hood is horrendous! Just texted my salesman (ford dealership) and he told me I should just contact a Toyota dealership to check on the recall.

Does anyone have an idea if this is something Toyota would cover even though tho I’m the second owner?

 

It’s goes by VIN # not by owner, so your truck will be covered. I’m the second owner of a 2017 also and I got the letter. Just call corporate and put in a claim just to make sure

 

Update your contact info with Toyota.

 

If you purchased this within days, you may be able to return it. Check your contract.

 

Give a big fat cash settlement and let me deal with it myself.

Fuck, I just noticed my drivers side passenger door by the window is starting to bubble up and flake.

Do I just take it to any Toyota dealership? I don’t really have a go-to dealership. Do my own maintenance.

This sucks.

 

I think you can file a case with toyota or take to dealership and have it noted. I went to dealership

Nope, they are waiting to hear what toyota tells them.

I'm in the same boat, man! 2018 VIN starts with a 3. Thought I was in the clear, but here we are. Got my service appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning. They said they would take pictures and send to the higher ups at Toyota to determine a resolution. I bet they'll just repaint the door and that's it.

 

You pry won't get much traction at the moment as everyone and most likely dealers are waiting for the SOP/recall instructions to fix. I got my letter like 2-3 months ago with no news since. I imagine the resolution will be similar to the rav4/camry/etc white paint issues which they put some type of tape on every section of the car and if paint is removed with the tape they will repaint that area. My cousin's RAV4 was so bad they repainted the whole car.

 

Took my truck to the dealer last week. They do have a local body shop they referred me to. Lady called me back same day and said they’re waiting on Toyota… same as what you all are saying. She said hopefully they’ll have more info in 2 to 3 months. FML
