2022 SR model. This is the driver’s side behind the rear wheel well where the plastic rock chip shield is glued over the paint.

Dealership didn’t think this was too concerning.

For those of you wondering what’s going on, that’s the gray primer underneath the paint that they just slapped the sticker over.

Did you guys get your paint jobs yet?

Yeah, me neither. Toyota aint going to do jack crap about this. Thats the only guarantee you can count on.

Im gonna rattle can it and say so long to any idea of buying another Toyota. This last one was just such a major disappointment in any way I care about.

I got a second opinion at another dealership nearby. Supposedly they doing the repair in small batches. Not sure they even started yet though.

He said they’ll send out another letter when your group gets called. I won’t hold my breath

20240418_110901[1].jpg Now I have a third door that's started to have paint fall off. I can't wait for the last door to start. I talked to the paint shop that my Toyota Dealer uses for other model paint repair programs. They said they take the panels down to bare metal and repaint. They also said they wish Toyota paid them more for the repair process. I worry about the paint on the rest of these trucks. Why is the issue only on certain areas?

Possibly the leading and trailing edges of panels where more turbulent air and abrasive particles are present? Combined with the lack of adhesion.

Anybody heard anything recently? The upper window border on both of my rear doors has started peeling and I can’t imagine it will stop there. I’ve actually seen a couple other peeling trucks in town and the owners had no idea it was a common issue. I made sure to encourage them to bug Toyota about it

I took mine to Gresham Toyota just to get it noted in the system and they refused to note anything about the paint issue in the system... I'm going to take it back to Gladstone Toyota where I've had much better luck with more knowledgeable staff and try to patiently wait like everyone else.

I ended up selling my truck because of the paint peeling. I've tried escalating with my dealer and Toyota of North America. Recently, they've started saying something along the lines of "I see that there's something in the system, but there's no date. You'll need to wait for your letter." They also said that they will only paint the areas that Toyota of NA have specified in the recall. PLUS it needs to show signs of paint failure. So, say you get your driver side painted, but the pain on the passenger side isn't flaking yet, you will likely have to wait until it does for them to test it.

Early on I saw that a lot of people thought it was an issue with primer adhesion. I've noticed that I have little "rock chip" looking flecks of paint missing all over the truck. I will say that in my case, the side of the truck that got more sun when parked started peeling first.
    1. A-pillar gap: Down like inbetween the fender and A pillar where it meets the firewall
    2. Forward of the edge of the roof, next to the windshield
    3. Under the hood and the edges of the front fenders
    4. The edges that surround the side windows
    3. Rear quarter panels both sides

In conclusion, I had a bad feeling about keeping the truck long term. Like, how does the area where the A pillar and firewall even start to have paint flaking off? It doesn't see direct sun and is semi-protected from other wear and tear. Anyways, the truck is probably going to need to be repainted entirely at some point. I'm staying away from all the modern white paints. It seems like adhesion issues are not localized to only Toyota.

I too have given up and will attempt to paint it myself. I doubt I will not buy another Toyota after this. I don't know how they replace frames on 15 year trucks but can't acknowledge this on 2nd generation super white trucks made at the same factory weeks before the 3rd gens that were covered by the recall.

From what I've heard/researched, those liner sprays/applications in white end up getting stained by dirt, so it won't stay pure white for long. Tech could have improved over the last couple years since I looked into it but thats why I never went that route.

I’ll be getting quotes for repainting my roof, driver’s side doors, and potentially fenders this week. I discovered some of the chips on the leading edge of the roofline near the windshield are beginning to rust, so I can’t put it off any longer. :(

The headlamp clouding has been going on since at least 2005. To be fair, it's not just Toyota and you'd think they would have figured it all out by now and changed the recipe so we wouldn't get whacked with huge out-of-pocket expensive hits for headlight replacements. They could at least offer a discount on the replacements.
