Looks almost like the same place on my bed that was peeling.

So annoying. I feel like if they want to make the situation correct, they would have to repaint everything metal on the truck

Dealership suggested after taking pictures of it to get a touch up paint pen . I did that and went over it every few days until it was pretty thick until it almost matched and stopped the peeling.

It’s been almost a year since my last update.

No update from Toyota still and the flaking continues in all the areas most everyone here is experiencing. However, now the entire hood and roof paint is washing off…not flaking. It’s literally like chalk. I’ll post pictures, but the paint wash off from just rain has stained the back windshield. I won’t wash it since I feel that could be used against me somehow by Toyota. Pissed is an understatement at this point.

Have any pictures? Did you ever bring it to a dealer?

I stopped by the dealer last Saturday and was told that just the day before Toyota gave the approval to start fixing the paint issues. I had an appointment today at the collision center. The lady took some photos and said she'll get back to me in a couple days. Fingers crossed!

According to guys in the 4th gen threads, dealers have affected trucks lined around the block and are painting em like it’s going out of fashion. If you haven’t heard anything in a while, you probably better be proactive and inquire. Or the guys in those threads are full of shit. Both scenarios are plausible.

If this happened on every color I would be upset. The fact that this happens on mostly one color and Toyota refuses to acknowledge 2nd gens having a problem built in the same factory a couple months before the 3rd gens is outrageous. This will be my last Tacoma unless they own up to this.

Called dealer today, have an appointment this Friday to get it looked at. They said after they look at it I will need to schedule an appointment with the body shop next door to get it fixed. 2020 super white dbl cab, paint started chipping around the windows a couple weeks ago.

The repair window is open now, they told me to call a Toyota dealer with collision center preferably if available. I called and I got put on a waiting list to get the truck looked at

Truck got looked at today and pictures taken to be sent to Toyota, I have both rear windows and under the hood peeling just like the document we all received from Toyota. They said they will only paint the areas affected not whole truck. Can't wait to see how that is going to look. I asked what happens if the paint peels in other areas later on? The guy just shrugged...A loaner will be provided while it's being painted. Waiting time to make appointment with the body shop is 2-3 weeks, they have to wait for Toyota to give the go ahead first.

I got a letter from Toyota stating that they will cover the paint peeling issue at no cost to the owner. It states 2016-2022 model year and "only involves double cab vehicles produced from a specific manufacturing facility, with the original factory-applied Super White paint color."

Maybe that means my 2023 access cab won’t have the problem?

Not sure about that but it's clear in the letter that 2023 models are not covered.

Yes mainly affecting those VIN’s that start with a 3. My 4 year old 040 Super White with a VIN starting with a 5 seems to be okay at the moment. Hopefully all those dealing with this are looked aftered properly. They should include the 2nd gens as well.

My 2017 starts with a 3 and also seems to be OK at the moment.
