2018 from the mexico plant. I didn't get any love from the dealer which wasn't unexpected.

Thanks for the details. The trend continues. Mexico plant 2016 to what looks like now affecting up to 2019’s. This is still a relatively isolated issue considering the sheer number of Super Whites out there.

But, IMHO, this is still total bullshit that Toyota is not covering the Tacoma but support the repairs of other models with failing paint.

Maybe the Tacomas have to pass a certain threshold of failures before they will start supporting owners with this issue. :notsure:

I was told that its an issue with the paint not bonding with the primer. They said that the issue is underneath the paint, not on top of the paint. They told me that clear coat or ceramic coating would not fix the issue. Basically the whole damn truck needs to be repainted or this will eventually spread all over.

I am looking to get my wrapped, i called a local body shop to get a quote on repainting 1 door and they said it was $2300.

Since I noticed the first bit of paint peeling nearly two months ago, I’ve been keeping watch for it to spread. Unfortunately it has. So far, mine seems to be at inconspicuous spots. But of course that’s subject to change. Right now it’s at the bottom of the A pillar on both sides where it meets the fender/door. Also along the fender at the hood edge, and a couple other random spots - if that makes sense. Really a shame Toyota won’t give us Tacoma owners any help.

Unfortunately those are very common areas to fail first.

Just found this on my 2015. Truck doesn’t have a single scratch or dent and has been sealed up regularly since day one. Quotes so far are $500 no warranty or $1300 “the right way”

At first I was going to do it the right way with a warranty, but what’s the point if the problems are going to keep showing up.

may be making a short drive to a paint shop in Mexico in the next year or two

I've owned my 2017 for about 4 years now with 60,000 miles. If it wasn't for its poor paint quality, I'd keep it for much longer, but I'm considering replacing it now. Probably about 4 times now issues with paint have come up and I'm sick of it. For owners with the paint issue, did you guys, get a complete full repaint or did you wind up trading it in. With how much a proper paint job can cost, I think I'd rather trade, but then again trade in value with flaking paint will be low.

What’s up everyone I’m new here, just bought my first Taco which is a 21 OR edition. I couldn’t help but notice this thread. It is very odd/ironic or whatever you want to call it that this is happening to the white color on Toyotas bc in my lifetime to date I have owned 3 brand new cars all white(1 Acura 1 honda 1 Toyota) and the Hondas are also known to have this same exact issue with their white diamond pearl specifically. My Acura TL had paint chip around the back windshield, Honda CR-V had paint chip at bottom of drivers side door and now I find out that the white on my Highlander and obviously on any Toyota could have same issue. I received a letter in mail about it months ago. This seems very odd that it happens across multiple manufacturers with their white colors and really sparks my interest if there is more to this issue than meets the eye. Anyways I thought I’d share that info with everyone and I hope my highlander and Tacoma never experience this.

I'm going to have to vote yes even though I didn't physically see it, it was repaired on mine

White seems to be hard for most manufacturers

This would drive me nuts and I would be trading it in no matter if it had started peeling or not. Very disappointing Toyota won't do anything, but i'm sure the cost has them saying no.

Discovered this small area of flaking in a common area a month or two ago and just finally got around to taking it in to the dealer. They took pictures, documented the visit, and said I would have to call a Toyota directly. Did that, Toyota said sorry, there’s no service campaign covering this issue. I had them document and provide a case number so I could decide what to do next. I was advised to get a quote from the dealer and Toyota “may” help out with the cost but no guarantee.

Just had it fixed. Can’t wait to see if it fails anywhere else.

Sorry to see this. It’s just going to get worse elsewhere on the truck. I’d wait to repair until you have a better understanding of where else your paint will fail.

Yeah point well taken after having scrolled through the thread again and reminding myself the much more severe damage some folks have had in multiple areas.

I’ll be calling Toyota back this morning, they set up a case number for me and asked me to submit an estimate from the dealer. The original response being, it’s not currently covered under a program but we can submit you for financial assistance with a copy of the estimate.

I’ll see what the response to the estimate is and go from there.

I find it so strange that some dealers have jumped right on covering this, for vehicles out of warranty, and in other cases direct calls to Toyota have yielded no assistance. Seems oddly inconsistent.

Anyone consider using insurance for this? I'm working with Geico on my claim, and so far they aren't pushing back.

Why doesn’t someone sack up and hire an attorney? There has to be someone with a super white that has a few extra pesos to do so.
