I have a question regarding 4-Lo. 5 speed manual trans. Why does it constantly beep in 4-Lo? I thought possibly it wasn't engaged. Drove 1/2 mile and never stopped beeping. I also never felt a change in the gearing.

Am I not being patient enough? What gives?

    Build thread coming soon!
The beep means it hasn't actually switched into low range.
    >>This is also why you didn't feel a change in the gearing

You would have definitely known if it had engaged. You would have been able to about 5 mph in 1st gear and the rev's would have been over 4k.

When it's beeping like that, switch back to 4hi real quick and try again. Neutral, clutch to the floor, be at a dead stop.

^ what he said. Only you don't have to have the stick in neutral position. Just clutch to the floor and dead stop. They say you can do it at less than 3mph or something like that, but I tried it once for shits and giggles, would never do it again.

Don't try to go straight from 2hi to 4lo. Shift into 4hi 1st and drive at least far enough to be certain it is engaged. Shift to neutral or press clutch in and then shift to 4lo. You can be moving VERY slowly, but it is generally best if completely stopped. Wait until the light comes on and stays on before placing the transmission in gear or letting out on the clutch.

Getting out of 4lo can be tricky. Come to a complete stop, press in clutch or shift to neutral. Go to 4hi, don't try to go straight to 2hi. If it doesn't shift out of 4lo put it in reverse and back up 10-15' and retry. You may have to do the 10-15' backwards and forward dance several times until it shifts into 4hi. But most of the time it isn't much of an issue. Once in 4hi start driving and then shift on the fly to 2hi.

Great advise! I'm a lazy old jeep driver. These techniques worked perfectly! I'm thinking these new trucks may need a little babying. Thank all of you for helping me thru
