Excellent post.... which leads into the post below:

This is absolutely correct. CR appreciates different things than we do.

It really comes down to what you want the truck to do for you....if you read the pros and cons to all, then go to the reviewer comment page and read further, I think they do a decent job laying out what and why. You truly need to put your priorities on why you buy/need the truck down and go with that.

Only the top end Ridgeline has those 'speakers' (actually not speakers at all...it's just actuators) and they sound so-so. Better off with a decent wireless bluetooth speaker like a UE Boom....

It's interesting that one of their "Pros" is reliability, and they rate the transmission highly. And owner satisfaction is high too.

Well car and driver as well as jdpower gave it pretty weak reviews. I'm waiting a couple more years for a 3rd gen till all the kinks are worked out.

So you don't like the other choices either. I have zero kinks in mine. When that tach hits 4000 + it hauls ass and sounds amazing. I'm impressed. Think about if no pull off the line it makes up for lost time somewhere and boy does it.

I haven't driven a 3rd gen yet, but every time I see them take off from a light, they seem as fast if not faster than my 2nd gen. I guess I need to test drive one and see for myself.

Im sure it drives great. It's longevity I'm worried about. I'll just wait till the first round of trucks warranties expire. I figure then I'm safe. Ive always driven Tacomas but I'm being very cautious of Toyota right now.

I hear the system Subaru is using is excellent so maybe Toyota will use their partnership to develop an equally good system. I'm sure Lexus already has this feature, but I haven't read any reviews or seen it in action.

Get a 125000 warranty. Problem solved. Trade in high if you don't like.

Neither is the Tacoma. It is new, it has a new engine, transmission and tech as well as many other things. Judging by the complaints on the board and the coloradofans site they appear to be about equal. Just cracks me up when people talk reliability, how is something built today have reliability based on how something did 20 years ago? Does your LED TV have the same reliability as its tube TV predecessor? Testers and reviewers are now knowing that now, no longer is Toyota getting the reliable mark on their reviews because the same vehicle did 20 years earlier.

The only way to prove reliability is time, period. Diffs, transmissions, truck shutting off, yup, sounds super reliable. The GM twins have some issues too, and so does a 10 year old design Frontier...

Warranties are all well and good but it's still not worth the headache to me. Toyota lost their benefit of the doubt with me over the years. They've fallen a long way since the dependable 1st gens and I'm not really sure if they are all that interested in correcting it. I'm not dropping over $40k on an unproven truck. In 3-4 years, if the 3rd gens hold up, then maybe.
