Come on now guys, no one walks into a dealer looking for a stripped SR. It usually goes like this: Timmy walks in wanting an off road double cab, but his pockets are empty. The dealer takes one look at his trade and credit score and proclaims they have just the truck for his budget. A porter runs with a jump box out to the back forty of the lot looking for an SR that doesn't have keyless entry and won't start because it's been there since the start of the new model year. The porter struggles to get it started and makes a mad dash for the wash bay to hose the shit off of it. In the mean time Timmy's wife is getting hungry and has eaten all the cookies in the waiting area and asking if the Toyota Jan girl is cutter than she is. As the SR rolls up to the front of the store Timmy is met with defeat. He takes it out on a drive and the salesman feeds him this line, well Timmy if you buy this truck you can trade it in a year when you build your credit up on that new off road model. Timmy agrees, but he's going to need the automatic because his wife Tammy can't shift or cook. About three hours later they leave the dealer with a $450 a month truck payment and enough money in their pockets for a feast at the Olive Garden.

This is how SR models find a home or they get a call from Orkin. If you can't see past the sarcasm of this post....

Funny shit.lol Or you have the tightwad bastard like me who's 37 and owned all the fancy trucks and got the "I need a seat that massages my ass and tickles my tits while I drive" out of his system and wants the most basic ass truck he can find that's still a Tacoma. The salesman sees he's pre-approved from his credit union for $45000 and tries to sell him a TRD Pro and to that I say "get the hell out of here, it's got too much crap on it." Salesman says "but sir you must have excellent credit to be pre-approved for such a high amount" and I reply "I do and that's one of the benefits of being a cheap ass bastard". He finally does a dealer trade for the SR I want, says he can install auto locks for $238 if I want. Nope, manual locks are fine but you can throw in a bed mat for free and a tow hitch. Then it's off to the service manager to get upsold on shit I don't want or need.

This seems off the subject, but isn't. Last year CR did a "test" of sunscreens. For years dermatologists, you know those MDs that get another year of training on skin, have recommended titanium and zinc oxides as the best defense against UV. There are multiple clinical trials using tens of thousands of subjects. CR decided to "test" various sunscreens by a "trained technician" whatever the hell that is. They had a few subjects put on the sunscreen and go outside, and viola, none of the dermatologists recommended sunscreens worked as well as the Trader Joes, and a few others, some that have carcinogenic ingredients. Evidently a few hours in the sun with no attempt to understand how much was put on each subject is equal to long-term clinical tests.

That's what you get with Consumer Reports "testing".

Well Timmy still has regerts and not because it's an SR. You see his wife took a spill getting into the truck 8 months later and bruised her hip really bad. He wished he had those predator steps installed for only $10.27 extra a month.

My dealer had to trade a DCLB OR to get the SR manual I wanted, with another dealer that was 200 miles as the crow flies.

Pretty happy with the experience, I told them what I wanted and they got it. No pushing to get me into a more expensive model even though I also have excellent credit.

They have the 2nd Gen Tacoma as the most reliable 4 year old truck. :burnrubber:

It is really hard to argue with this list. So their methods must have some merit to them.

I had a novel approach to buying my ‘17....

I went and drove a bunch of trucks and bought the one I liked the most.

I do wonder what their team is made up of gender-wise. If it's all middle aged women I could see why they like the Ridgeline.

    I did.

I wish the SR came with factory flares, but it was $25k.

I did, granted not a 2.7 a 3.5 4x4 dcsb but it had all I wanted, I don't need a locker, I don't need all the extra stuff(I do wish it had intermittent wipers) but I wasn't paying more than 30k for it when I could buy a tundra for 34k(double cab) or 36k(crew max) plus I like the fact I get 20mpg. So yes some people do go in looking to buy an SR.

The Consumer Reports rag is owned by a company based in Japan. Their ratings have at times been riddled with bias. I have never fully trusted their data.
