lowest predicted reliability? they are not engineers... They can only report on what they are told, and a very small minority of an already limited selection can be very loud and eletronic issues are some of the fewest complaints i see here on the forums...

No idea but many other Consumer Reports have been posted, but I'll see myself out.

I'll preface this by saying that I like my Tacoma quite a bit, but this article has this gem: "Across the board, the nearly perfect Tacoma improved in all the areas in which it was not scored at the highest rating"

Nearly perfect? Right, it's so perfect that multiple transmission flashes have been cooked up by Toyota to help remedy the serious issues some people are having, people have gone through the trouble of paying to re-gear a perfect truck, there are a variety of after market "fixes" that people have come up with to address transmission issues, people have trucks that surge a few feet when going into gear when it's cold, people have engines that sputter on takeoff, there have been issues with unresponsive throttle and the fixes people have come up with, trucks that howl, some people claiming their engines are knocking, and I'm sure if kept digging, there'd be other stuff. My truck has been in the garage 5 times already for non-routine maintenance.

I'm not saying the truck is garbage. Like I said, I still like it, despite it's issues. However, if I were shopping for vehicles, I'd take the word of Consumer Reports over what appears to be an article penned at Torque News. I have a friend who drives a Gen 2 Taco, and he's one of these Toyota absolutists who has the idea that Toyota is infallible, and if you're driving a vehicle made by another manufacturer, not only is it complete and utter garbage, but it's probably on the verge of breaking down and killing you at any moment. I've met a lot of Toyota owners who have the same attitude, it's like Macintosh Computer users from 10 years ago. So even if Torque News did get their info from Toyota owners, take it with a grain of salt.

This perception is what happens when you hang out in TW for too long. It's like going to a hospital and observing a lot of sick people.

Consumer Reports love CUV's. They do. They hate Jeeps. They hate 4Runners. They hate Tacomas. They hate body on frame. They hate Land Cruisers. I use CR for toasters, TV's and washing machines. I don't use them for vehicles. Or people. Or pets.

Don't mean this as a personal attack to you but I work at a Honda dealership and was formerly with Toyota, I still keep up with my friends at the Toyota store and every single one of these "surge issue" people that I've seen turns out to be, in my opinion, kind of a little bitch in general about problems lol. None of them had previous Tacomas and all of them seem like they fit the Subaru buyer profile and should've bought a freaking Outback. One of them I even let drive my personal Tacoma and he immediately said "SEE!! YOURS DOES IT TOO!"

I showed him this pic of how I park everyday, have about 6" of clearance front and rear, if the surging was a problem I'd be knocking into my fence and Jeep everyday but somehow I manage to park it perfectly despite the "surge"... But according to him my truck to totally dangerous as any day now I'm gonna run over a pedestrian

    IMG_9890.jpg

Also told him both of my 2nd gens also "surged" didn't seem to make a difference, he opened a case with Toyota and swears he's some sort of victim of corporate greed :jerkoff:

I know SOME people are having legitimate issues, its a brand new truck I'd be surprised if there wasn't kinks that need ironing out. But so far, from the people I've met in person complaining, its more of an issue of expectations than it is problems with the actual truck.

While I don't have issues with surging, howling or any rattles yet, I have to admit that throttle/transmission calibration in the Tacoma is probably among the worst I've ever seen in any of close to 30 vehicles I've owned. I will not take it in for that since that's just the trait of the truck I knew about before buying it. I like everything else about it so living with that negative is acceptable for me.

    A couple things
I've found the solution to that is making sure the "lie-o-meter" real time MPG screen is not on....And just pushing the right hand pedal til I'm going as fast as I want.

If it downshifts, it does, I've stopped worrying about it.
