Thoughts? I am thinking of going to the 4Runner, as the wife does not like how my truck drives and it is too loud. Will the 4Runner be quieter? Also, I need it for the extra interior room.

Anyone interested in a decked out Inferno TRD Pro Tacoma? Hidden winch mount system, weathertech mats, weathertech window vent guards, bed cover, bed mat, amp research folding rear step, pop and lock keyed to truck, Nfab 3" steps, Nfab light bar, 30" led light bar. Winch is Smittybilt 9.5 with synthetic rope. Also included factor 55 fairlead and Factor 55 pro link. Led lights, glovebox and center console dividers.

Happy wife, happy life, my friend.

I do think that the 4Runner is quieter. They're two different vehicles made for two different things.

If you need extra interior room, then an SUV would be the way to go.

I mean, I'll always like the Taco over the Runner, but that's just me - everyone's needs are different.

    Also, PM'ed you.

Sounds less like a question and more like a "let me know it's okay" thread. :)

As for your truck being too loud, you can always add sound deadening material.

As for the "need it for the extra interior room," I think that solves your quandary - DO IT!

Nice truck, by the way! It'll go fast so you can get into the 4R.

I went the opposite way (4Runner to Tacoma) because there were times I needed a truck instead of an SUV.

4Runner is a great vehicle, I'm sure you will enjoy it

Can you give me some of the details of why you went to the Tacoma? Just curious.

    Thanks

Didn't need a full sized truck, and the bad gas mileage that goes with it.

More comfortable putting things I'm buying from Home Depot (for example) - like paint, wooden boards, concrete mix etc in a truck bed v.s. the carpeted rear of my 4Runner.

My Wife has had her Rav4 since 2006, and besides regular maintenance (oil changes, tune up etc) and a new set of tires, it has run flawlessly.

Newer GM trucks have a long list of recalls, Dodge Rams seem to have tranny problems, waiting to see how the new Fords are ....

Tacoma double cab gives me the option to take a few extra people if need be (just me and the Mrs., and a small dog in the house these days), always wanted one, see -plenty- of older ones still on the road, and they keep a really nice resale / trade in value if I ever want something different.

I keep excellent care of my vehicles, (besides maintenance, I do detailing on the side) and was getting ready to trade my 4Runner in for the Tacoma when my Son in Law heard about it, wired me $1000 more than the dealer was going to give me for trade in, and he flew up from Birmingham, Alabama to Mid Michigan and drove it home.

    Win / Win

JPA2002 = if you don't mind me asking (and please don't take this the wrong way) -

Why did you buy a Pro ? Do you do -alot- of off-roading ?
Live in an area where you have to travel down unpaved roads on a regular basis ?

    See a big need to go off-roading with a 4Runner ?

I mainly need a 4WD for the snow around here, and while I won't mind going on some dirt road paths with some other guys, I'm one of those guys that -more than likely- will not be putting a big lift and huge tires.

    Just curious

    I went from a 2012 Tacoma T|X Pro 4x4 to a 2014 T4R Limited 4x4.

In my case for added interior space primarily.

I did not drive a T4R Pro because they were not yet available when I was in the market but, I suspect ride & noise will be similar from one Pro to another...Tacoma to T4R.

The T4R Limited has way more street tire than the Taco Pro, a fully boxed frame (as opposed to box with "C" channel) & x-reas (not cheap to replace) & maybe more sound deadening material because the Limited T4R seems to ride better and seems a little quieter than my Tacoma was, IMO.

That said, neither were or are "great" driving as far as laser accurate steering or knowing center when cruising down the interstate. I do prefer the brakes on the T4R for feel...very solid compared to my Taco (which weren't bad).

That said, if I needed another mid size truck, I'd jump right back to a Tacoma.

    Nice truck BTW.

it IS a great looking truck !

Some things that lead to a rougher ride have to do with suspension, and certain tires.

Noise is usually either exhaust (I think yours is still stock) and beefier tread tires.

You could consider the cost of different tires, seeing how much it would cost to take out the interior and add a bunch of sound deadening stuff, and switching to a fiberglass topper...

    .... just spit-balling some ideas---

What make the Pro loud is the TRD exhaust. Perhaps you could find a TW member who would swap exhausts....TRD for an OEM.

What winch mount did you go with and did it drop the front end at all?

The undercover winch mount system. No drop at all.

Yea, the exhaust may be the big factor.

I vote for the sound deadening. I did it to my truck and it is quiet!

I was contemplating a 4 Runner when I bought my truck - but I knew it would be noisier than the Tacoma with a topper. Right now my tools, shovels, axe, camping gear, gun gear, etc isn't in the same compartment as me, like it would be with a 4 Runner.

No, don't do a lot of off-roading. Why did I buy it? I wanted the look of the Trd-sport with locking rear differential. That wasn't the main factor, but it was one. Also, I am getting less and less into turning wrenches, so I wanted something that was already setup.

I, like you, mainly use mine for snow and maybe an excursion or two into the woods with the family. better to have and not need than to need and not have. Guess that is how a live!

The noise comes from the TRD catnaps exhaust. The 4Runner has the same amount of rear leg room. I agree with @Plain Jane Taco just swap the exhaust to OEM and keep the truck.

You and I are in the same boat

I used to have a '70 Plymouth Road Runner, and one of the reasons I sold it was - I kinda got tired of wrenching on it. I replaced it with a new Corvette, so I still have a sports car with power, but don't have to spend any time working on it

... unless waxing counts as work ;)
