wanted some ideas and maybe see some pics
    of contractor/construction rigs
i use my tacoma daily for construction
and i think it's perfect for what i do
im a carpenter by trade, went full solo 2 years ago
so now ill do just about anything
i went through that situation when i first got the '08
of not being able to put a standard runothemill ladder rack on it
finally decided o go with the backrack safety rack
effin love that thing roof saver for sure
im always keepin eye out for one track rack on craigslist
that i could throw on the back when needed(no luck yet)
a welder friend o mine is fabricating a square tube with plates on ends
that would bolt to bed rail and keep lumber/ladders 6" above tailgate
we'll see how long that takes, but ill post pics when its on
this is the only pic of my truck
nothing exciting yet, but open to ideas
(sorry bout pic, lost ipod with decent ones, only one on cpu)

My best " contractor " mod was buying my commercial Leer cap , the 100RCC , the roof is reinforced and the roof racks are rated for 400lbs

This would get my vote also. Dry, lockable storage for tools and the ability to carry longer pieces of wood on the roof if needed. (and they look nice also, so you wouldn't immediately think it's a contractor's truck).

A little early to tell, but I think this is going to work for me. I have a 16' flat trailer to haul big stuff. This is replacing my 2001 Expedition that had all my tools in the back with the 3rd row seat out. I do home repairs / remodeling. I ordered a Pop & Lock power tailgate lock to make sure everything is secure.

Wouldn't it have been easier to cut that piece of crap up before hauling it to the dump ?

dude that roof mod is so effin sweet
that thing would have been strapped to my truck for weeks
i have a couple friends who would pay $10 a week to crash back there
    for the summer
and they'll wash the windows in the morning too

but seriously your setup(under the peak) is really nice
that would be perfect setup for me
thats about $1500 worth of gear no?

The Rack I got from this company:
    http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oGdW002mtP6icA6U9XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE1YXByb2NsBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA3NrMQR2dGlkA0FDQlkwMV8xNDE-/SIG=119e5q36i/EXP=1332497076/**http%3a//rackitinc.com/

They are not cheap, I forget what it costs because I got the cap and rack at the same time for $2300 installed by Campaways

Edit: You have to beef up the rear suspension for a set up like this

Hey Racheal , how does yours work with the cap ? Is the bedrail " foot " widened so the rack uprights are outboard of the cap ?

    .
Well Roy, the rack's footings extend outboard of the shell for the uprights, inside of the bed there are two posts closer to the cab that bolt into the two forward bed bolts and the rear two attach to the corner pillars (which go to the frame). It's a trippy set up but in essence the rack is attached to the frame, not resting on the bed, it's actually quite stiff, more than I thought it would be. That shed roof took four guys to get it up there.
