Global warnings and warming means winters in Canada have just become even more unpredictable so if I don't want to buy a new truck can I convert my rear wheel drive Tacoma PreRunner into a 4x4?

The pole is there to see if my suspicion is correct that Toyota knows they screwed up with the transmission on a number of model years but are worried about funding a recall. The "bump phenomena" is on a technical advisory but they won't do anything about it. I find it disconcerting. How difficult is the 2x4 conversion?

It's not difficult, it's just taking time to find the right (expensive) parts and having someone install those parts... (Also expensive.)

The "bump from behind phenomena" you're referring to is from the infamous axle wrap, it's not because of your transmission. It's due to weak leaf springs.

As for your other topic, it's relatively easy to convert a Prerunner to a 4x4 if you have the know-how and/or the $$$. Prerunners are built on the 4x4 frame so that's a big advantage, you just have to locate the 4x4 components to do the conversion. Your best bet is to find a donor truck; one that was totaled but has it's drivetrain intact.

Its not the hardest thing, just takes some patience &/or a nice chunk of cash. Find donor parts and have patience, thats what i may be starting soon

All great suggestions and for this old infantrymen the field of dreams perspective is right there with the Polish brothers movie Astronaut Farmer. Pulled up beside an 02 Tacoma yesterday and like us he refuses every offer to buy. Thanks Eon Blue for the info about the "bump", the chassis and the donor idea. I'll work on it. Dust Storm, Canuks like surveys WCIS. ODNAREM at some point a Tacoma convention might see us all having one big tail gate party! The first keg cracked is on me!
