Converting from SR/SR5 non-LED headlights to 2020 full LED headlights

I waited 7 weeks and was in contact with three other members that were at about the same time.

 

I'd only use the OEM Toyota LED lights - I'd pay the $1500 to get them - I agree with the OP

 

Mate, I understand your concern and your opinion on the matter. However, the post was not created to discuss if owners should or should not spend money on what for their Tacoma's.

Hell, if it was for my wife she'd say that the truck is perfect and should stay the way it is right out of the dealership...

Please let's not deviate ourselves from the topic. Which is to help others install these type of headlights, and yes if someone is able to come up with something even better then might as well share it here as well.

I spoke with Mike Eggers he is making the TRD's/Limited Tacoma harness and when I asked him about one for SR/SR5's he told me that there was a bunch of people waiting and that he would have something in the next couple of months, but no specific time schedule.

 

Would you post a screen shot of that?

 

It’s in the head unit customization setting. The DRL still come one when you turn on your headlights as the dim function. They don’t completely turn off with the headlights on

 

The "difference" is the intensity of the incandescent bulb. It has 2 filaments. The TURN & DRL are the same filament (High) the other is for the Parking/Tail.(Dim)
Selecting DRL OFF, cuts the ON feature of the HIGH filament at IGN and still gets to function as TURN.
After headlights are selected, the incandescent bulb is lit dim by the parking/tail circuit with the LOW filament. TURN still uses high with headlight selected.
In the other models selecting Headlamps turns off the ground to the LED DRL relay but DRL also still has the Parking/Tail illumination input to the DRL(DIM)

So, for those with SR5, there would be NO NEED to tap the rear turn signals, since the DRL function can be disabled by the Infotainment menu. Not so for the SR. Unless, somehow, they get the same head unit and works properly. I don't have any info on what production model gets what, especially SR & SR5 and their selling region or country.

Nope he did not.
The info on having the DRL OFF via head unit app was unknown at the time.

 

If I had an SR or SR5, and money for the LED headlamps, I'd just snip all connectors and crimp the MX150 connector and terminals. Then I'd assemble the opposite harness, one going to the original headlamps, since I'd have all the required connectors. I don't think I'd replace the LED with another set if they get damaged by a shopping cart at the mall.
