I'm gonna call them on Monday and see if they would be able to do a custom one that has a 4 or 6 inch/sec rate. They mention in that link above that custom options are available -- might as well get exactly what I want! They are in Victoria, BC which is just across the pond from me here in Seattle, so at least they are somewhat local for me.

I also need to pick up one of your 4x4 illuminators!

I was also thinking of injecting some kind of sound deadening material into the square tubing, like silicone or something. I have a feeling most of the noise is coming from the accoustics inside the tubing amplifying the sound of the churning parts inside.[/QUOTE]

I did this mod last fall. Absolutely the best mod I've done so far, now I can actually use that sliding window without having my kids with me to slide it for me. The noise from the motor is loud but in theory you would only open it once and close it once during a trip. I've been thinking about using a Dynamat alternative that you can buy fairly cheaply from Home Depot or Lowes, it's a roofing material called peel and stick. It would serve two purposes, one would be sound deadening and the other would be blacking out the motor so you don't have a big silver rectangular motor that is visible through your rear window. I think some guys that have done this mod actually painted the motor black to accomplish this anyway.

Also, the key to this mod is getting the correct switch. Firgelli has two switched, a momentary and a sustaining. The sustaining switch model MAN-RS is the way to go. This way you don't have to keep your finger on the switch for the entire 10 minutes it takes to open the window and you can stop it at any point you wish so you don't have to open the window entirely. I found a cheaper alternative online but depending on where you can source it from the shipping charges bring the price right up. It's a switch manufactured by Cherry and the model# is WRG34F2BBBNN. It's almost exactly the same size as the switch from Firgelli.

I like the idea of wrapping the actuator with a sound deadening material, I think it would definitely cut down the noise some. I am very interested to see if they could have a custom actuator made. I am glad you all are having a goodtime with the idea and improving upon it. Please keep posting your improvements it is giving me more ideas and somebody should put a kit together and offer it, might make a couple of bucks plus it would make it easier for everyone who wanted to do the mod. Thanks!

FYI, I inquired about getting a custom made high-speed actuator from Firgelli and unfortunately at 2-1/8" diameter they are too fat to fit behind the seatback. Shame, because they are advertised to run quieter and smoother than the mini actuators.

That's why I ended up doing my version of the power window mod with the Ridgeline regulator.

Update,,, my Firgelli LA just bit the dust. It was sounding funny the last couple times I used it, then it made this nasty metalic grinding noise and has now quit working. I haven't taken the LA apart yet to see what happened, but suspect the screw doing the actual actuating has stripped out.

Not sure if I am going to replace with another one or not. I would like to do BenWA's version instead, but I have a sub box/amp board right in the middle of the back wall.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the LA may not be a long-term solution,,, or I have an outlier, since I haven't heard anyone else's going tits-up.

BTW, LA didn't last quite a year, did it Nov, 2010 (post #79).

    DBBD1,
I got together with BenWA and did his mod. I love it. He used a Honda Ridgeline power window motor.

Search his thread too before choosing.
