Resale, Reliability, and dependability, something Ford seems to have a problem with. My father owns a new ford, nice big strong truck. But in reality, my tacoma will outlast it. I have 70,000 miles, and the only issue I have had is replacing my head light bulbs. Even when I modded it, no issues.

I went back and forth whether I wanted a sports car (Camaro, Challenger, Mustang) or a truck. When I came to my senses and decided on a truck, there was only one choice. Tacoma. I did not consider any other truck. I LOVE it! Good luck with you decision. PS, resale IS a good reason/factor to consider, and, as is said here often: don't buy a truck (any truck) if you worry at all about gas mileage.

Toyota doesn't have to offer huge rebates to sell their cars like Ford, cheby and dodge does. In other words-Toyota doesn't have to pay you to buy their cars.

not 100% true there. We have a 2004 f-250 triton v10 with 336,000 and have done nothing but regular matinence. It has never broke down on the side of the road since it was brand new. Were looking to get atleast 375,000 miles before we get a new truck. Ford makes some good trucks based on our expirences

If you are so worried about gas get yourself a civic or a smart car and stay away from trucks period.

Resale maintenance costs and reliability. I'd get a Chevy before I'd get a ford. And dodge is great if your in to using every tax return to buy a transmission

My friend got the new F150. It has all the cool gadgets I wish Toyota would look at. Entune does a little, but who the hell wants to pay for that?

Exactly. Sure if you know you're only going to be keeping it a few years I guess that's important. But if I'm buying I'm looking to keep awhile. To me resale value is only a main factor if you're looking to buy used. In which case, opposite would be true in that a vehicle that has good resale value is going to end up costing you more. One might prefer something with poor resale value.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
    because chicks dig 'em.

Honestly I may have to get something with better gas mileage but it wouldn't be a smart car or civic. I would shoot for something that I can get an average MPG in the mid 20s. I don't want to drive around in a go kart no matter how good the mpg.

I guess I should have said not to convince me but help me decide. Tacomas are awesome and I have liked them for a long time.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
Writing down and analyzing like this is great and probably what I would do when faced with my first purchase decision like this.

But having owned over 20 new pickups ... the Tacomas are some of the best out there. Drive a 3 or 4 year old Tacoma and it feels new & tight ... drive the same F-150 and it feels older. Some things won't fit into words on a Tacoma, they are just the best in my book.

If you were originally interested in a F-150, then I would go for a TRD V-6 either in 4x4 or 4x2 configuration and in your choice of cab styles. FWIW, 4x2 TRDs have a rear locker. Toyota also makes some of the best 4 bangers in the world too.
