The rollover is BS because the Jeep is pulled along by a steel cable rather than moving under its own power. The cable kept on pulling after the Jeep had struck the barrier. In practice the Jeep is more stable than the Tacoma because it needs to be lifted less to fit 35" (or larger) tires.

By the way all the small-overlap and side-impact tests become inconsequential after you add a winch bumper and sliders, because the armor takes all the impact forces and direct them to the frame.

I dont think thats accurate, the cable stops just past the barrier, the cable is longer than the length past the barrier the track extends. You can see the track allows the cable to pop out at the end of the track. The cable stops pulling as it is ejected from the track, it does not continue to pull

Here you can see the stop for the cable and how the track is opened up at the end to allow the cable to eject from the track.

Yes you're right. Upon closer inspection the "catapult" stops just past the barrier, allowing the cable to go slack:

I think the big issue with the jeep compared to the tacoma on the offset is the solid front axle. On the tacoma, the suspension just sheers off, but on the jeep the solid axle will not sheer off, instead it gets pushed up and under the truck launching it upwards. Many of the other solid front axle trucks are large enough they can fit a solid axle getting shoved under the truck, but the jeep just is not big enough to handle such a large hunk of metal and rubber in there.

I think the solid axle is to blame, but for a different reason: hitting the barrier cranks the driver's front tire to the left, and that pulls the passenger front tire in the same direction. This is akin to steering into the incline in an off-camber situation off-road. In an IFS setup, the tie rod is a lot more flimsy, so it just bents on impact and not crank the passenger front tire.

I don't see any HD pickups (F250/350 or RAM 2500/3500) on IIHS' channel? Looks like they cap their truck testing to half-ton models.

I liked my 2013 JKUR and it was more reliable than my 2021 Tacoma. Went to the dealer two times, one for a recall in 75k miles, my Tacoma been in 7 times for minor stuff. With that said, the Jeep seats really start hurting my back after about 50k miles and why I didn’t get a Gladiator.
