Why spend $13k to get rid of something you love, especially since it has about 200k miles of life left?

Other than to help stimulate the economy?

Maybe answering that question will help you decide if you want to proceed.

I question why you'd want to get rid of your 2010 with such low miles if you love it. Especially if it's paid off and isn't lacking any features that you really want. The 3rd gen is more refined and will have more tech, but that wouldn't be enough of a reason to jump ship for me. If you're happy with your current one, my suggestion would be to stick with it and wait to see what the Tacoma looks like a few years. Maybe they will release a 4th gen or offer options that you want in the 3rd gen that you can't get now.

That said, I have a '17 and I absolutely love it. It's my favorite vehicle I've owned. I think the issues get exaggerated because many people only post in order to vent if they're having issues. This can skew the bigger picture. I feel like the 3rd gen has no more issues than the previous gens.

I would say the only make the switch if there is a feature that you really want. Bluetooth, manual transmission, nav, or maybe switching body styles. If you're completely happy with the 2010, I say definitely wait so you can get all of the newer features and bug fixes in a few years.

Pickup trucks.com does a good midsize comparison every few years. The '16 taco was the slowest of any gas midsize this year in their 0 to 60 test. They've done a real world test with all the competition in 2015 and 2012 as well. Historically the 2nd gen ran neck and neck with the frontier to 60. Now-a-days the same frontier is quicker than the '16 tacoma 0 to 60.

    16 tacoma or - 8.59 sec
    15 tacoma pro - 8.44 sec
    12 tacoma or - 8.17 sec.

The '16 might catch up in the 1/4 but it isn't quicker off the line.... The 2nd gen is a grunty bugger and still performs well, even with a 3.73 axle disadvantage.

I consider these results to be equal. They all run 0-60 in 8 seconds. Seriously, who can physically notice the difference between .17 seconds and .59 seconds. Or even 8 seconds and 9 seconds. It just hilarious that we discuss these things. Who the hell is trying to run the best 0-60 times they can in their Tacoma anyway? I don't know a single time that I have thought that my '17 Tacoma was slow or under powered. And this is after owning a Hemi Ram.

US Tacoma's don't offer the ACLB TRD Off Road in 6MT. I do believe they do in the TRD Sport but I've never been interested in owning one.

Also, there is no option to get a moonroof in the AC, unlike the gen 1. I too wanted a TRD OR AC with a manual and moonroof. The AC and longer bed were a must, so I compromised with an auto. I've adjusted to the auto and it's okay. Just wish the MT and moonroof were available.

While it would be a compromise you can certainly get a AC LB v6 6MT SPORT (model 7559) in the USA. Ok so you don't get a locker and you get that lame scoop blocking your view and painted flares that people seem to like.... and for 1k more you could put an ARB or factory elocker in a year or two once they become available. I still can't fathom the popularity of the sports but I don't think it's a big down grade from an off-road.

OTOH there is the 4cyl AC LB 5MT SR option which I would consider if I didn't need a double cab. For the 6k price difference you could put in lockers on both ends and a really nice stereo and some nice katzkin heated seats and still have thousands left over.

I can't justify buying a brand new truck unless I'm getting EXACTLY what I want..so at this point I think I'm screwed until Toyota offers the AC/LB OR or DC/LB OR in a 6MT.
I've got 60k miles on a truck that's worth a couple thousand less than what I bought it for (2010 4.0L V6 ACLB TRD OR 4x4 6MT, bought in 2013 with 19k miles for $24,700). I've put 41k miles on it in about 4 years, its paid off, and this or any new truck I buy WON'T be my daily driver. I commute 70miles round trip to work and have a small Honda that gets good gas mileage, only drive the Tacoma when roads are bad (I live in Idaho) and camping/hunting/fishing trips.

I do find it interesting how many different opinions have been expressed and I appreciate all of the feedback!

Sounds like a good decision to me. I would keep it too, especially with those low miles and it paid for. I really needed a 4x4 truck, so I bought new and now plan on driving it for a million miles!! Glad you made a decision you can be happy with!

Thanks. I'm going to use the money on a Polaris RZR 900S EPS instead. Couple friends have RZR's and they're insanely fun.

Agree. Traded my '14 TRD Sport for a '17 Pro with no regrets. I loved my '14. Never had any issue with it. Now I love my Pro. I read about all the "issues" you mentioned too. Caused me a little concern. Maybe it does shift more, I guess? But it doesn't bother me. And I don't notice all the mystery noises and vibrations...of course, I only have 2500 miles on it. So I guess that could change. But I love the quieter interior, exhaust, seats, push-button start, etc. Bottom line...I have no regrets. I love my PRO and I'd do it again.
