Awesome truck Always, looks great. So how much did this mod cost to do it right? I bet dad will need a second mortgage.

Can I be nosy and ask how much (ballpark) that cost? I know others will want to know.

Hahaha. Honestly, I don’t even wanna calculate it cause it’s probably dumb. We talking everything everything? Or just suspension?

    Appreciate it!
As much as there’s differences with lifts and headlights and yada yada.
TW has seriously played a huge role in the build. I like a lot that everyone offers and try to incorporate it too. Bit of jealous of everyone’s builds haha

well, I’ve got my own mortgage bud. The truck is 2017, this wasn’t built overnight

Suspension mods alone? With SHIPPING to Hawaii (yuck) maybe 6gs. Figure hammer hangers alone are about 1g already. Labor is free cause I do it myself

No money, all went to truck...
Your build is different though. There is a purpose to it. Hobby, fishing, lava rock. No one know lava rock until you experience it...

But again, this is Hawaii... and Friday...

As an aside, I thought I remembered a thread mentioning that vehicles have to be reasonably stock to pass state inspection for plates and registration in HI? Or is that not the case?

Yup. That’s what I wrote my opinion, as just an opinion. Gotta do what works for you individually. But that’s also the reason why DB gets bashed here. It’s not what the “common” group would do

ahhhh mainly wheel setup not surpassing fenders, mud flaps, illegal tint

Here that POPs. It will never end if you don't nip it NOW!

I'll stick with my stock 2022 SR 4x4 Access for now. I did add a steel BA rear bumper. Aids better traction on wet roads and along with my hitch it screws anybody not paying attention if they rear end me.

    JFC.......

You know he probably posted that and thought he was about to be the coolest dude on the block.

To the OPs thoughts, if I personally had any financial part in my son's vehicle (as in signed for a loan in any way, or loaned him money for it in any large amount) there is NO WAY I'd be letting him void the warranty with a 6"lift.

    A lot
I will say this as someone who spent five years in the Marine Corps Working my ass off to afford my dream truck.

    Its not about the truck.

There were times in my life that I Came back from deployment to no family. Where I had car issues and no financial way out as a junior enlisted dude in socal. Even as a married NCO it was difficult to get established in a home from the equivalent of financial nothing. And the whole time I had the appreciation of my own hard work but I would have given anything for family that would go out on a limb and help me do literally any of this. But I was unwilling to defer to the family I had because every ounce of the small amount of help offered came with strings and guilt. And I was gonna be god damned if I ceded even an inch of being a grown ass man, just to perpetuate a relationship that took away from my independence and self respect.

If he's working a career job and put 10k down and makes his insurance and payments then that should be his truck. Its amazing that you helped him but as a parent you have to understand that loaning help to your child as an adult does not give you license to drive decision making in his life and take the reigns away from him. (in my opinion).

I think that instead, you should be proud that you were an excellent father who did the best to look out for his kid, and give him something that by all accounts it sounds like he truly deserves. It took me alot of pain and alot more years to get to where your son is at 18. I'm sure he appreciates having a parent in life that could provide him with an opportunity to have something so special at that age. You won't be doing him a disservice by just letting that be.

I wouldn't get in the way of his idea for is truck. I would offer advice, but if you put your foot down he may respect your decision but ultimately he will resent it and possibly stay away from coming to you for things in the future.

I think you did an awesome thing, don't let bitter old dudes here talk you into subverting your sons independence. He's a grown man with a grown job and he can make grown decisions.

Don't let the thought of money get in the way of doing something incredible for your kid. Let it stand and cash in on the love your son has for his father.
