I noticed a coolant leak on my 2017 Tacoma the other day. Took it to a mom and pop shop down the street and they quoted me $6200 to fix the coolant bypass hose. Not to mention charged me $480 just to diagnose the problem. Am I crazy or is that ridiculous!?!? What is the easiest way to repair the coolant bypass at home? Can I do it without pulling the engineer transmission? Any help is much appreciated. I’ve considered taking it to the stealership to see what they quote.

I have read it is a large job, in this case, a dealer may be cheaper. Some mom n pop shops are not cheaper as they don't like these large jobs and price accordingly. I would shop around.

If you’re referring to the crossover pipe, the transmission needs to come out.
The price you quoted is outrageous, take it somewhere else.

I know it's expensive to fix it, but I think $6,200 is pretty damn high.

Around 10 hours in labor usually to fix it. $100 in parts.

That you for your help! I’ll shop around and see what the dealership will charge too. I’ll update with my findings.

    I was wondering this too??
Did they charge 4+ hours to put it on a lift and grab their flashlight?

Remove the plenum and the intake, fix it yourself. It’s doable and reachable.

You can reach it from the top with the intake off?

It looks to be a pain in the ass from the top, due to where the lower bolts are, but much easier done at home in your driveway than pulling the transmission.
