"Toyota went back to a stainless steel line sometimes around 2009" and mine's 08 - oh well. Thanks.

Mine is a 2012 manual and had the plastic pipe.
But I have heard of others with 2011 year trucks that got the metal pipe from the factory. Go figure.

It was just starting to seep a tiny bit behind the water pump before the surgery, evidenced by crusty pink residue from the toyota coolant.
190k on the odometer at the time.

Forgot to mention, I wondered about the new throttle body gasket not having the screen too.

I installed the new gasket without the screen and the truck has been fine for almost 2 years, noticed no difference.

I have an early 2009 and it had the plastic pipe. It didn't leak, but I changed it at ~170k miles. I bought the intake gaskets locally and IIRC I could not find the gasket for the throttle body; I reused it with no issues.

In the reservoir or the radiator?
    I’d pressure test it first.

Just looked today when I was working...I have some crust and "wetness" on the bypass connection exiting the radiator connection? at the foreward part of the line...

My truck is at dealership and they want $1500 to replace the bipass pipe on my 09 2.7ltr taco which is a lot! Can I delay the repair by keeping the coolant fluid topped up?

I suppose you could, but it depends on how bad it’s leaking. Ideally you want to fix coolant leaks as soon as possible. But there are 1000’s of cars and trucks out there leaking. To each their own.

Just remember, the cooling system is under pressure. I will leak worse when the truck is on. Which means you won’t see the coolant leak in the driveway like an oil leak.

So keep an eye on it regularly.

Yeah. It’s not near as bad on the 2.7 as the 4.0. Intake off and it’s right there.

I did one, it was easy. The worst part is one of the vacuum hoses on the back of the manifold at the rear of the engine is kind of a PITA to get to but once the manifold is off the pipe is right there in the open.

I'm getting this done at the dealership currently. Can't tell if the part 16268-75112 that they are ordering is the stainless one because its listed as alloy steel. Anyone help me locate the stainless one?

Also there is lots of information on this bypass pipe replacement elsewhere on TW, search if you need to know more. I am not a professional wrench but I'm pretty handy, did the pipe replacement myself in about 4 hours. Took extra time for photos, labeling hoses, a few notes, etc. Actually it was a fairly easy job, all things considered... just be methodical. I enjoyed seeing into the intake ports and appreciated all the room in the engine bay afforded by the 2.7. I suggest using a small 6-point socket to remove the stud from the head at the very back of the intake, this will make it much easier to connect/disconnect that pesky vacuum hose on the back of the manifold.

That's the part I used but I don't think they are stainless but polished or plated metal although I'm not 100% sure. I think there is only one replacement bypass pipe. I couldn't find any other part numbers when searching.

I posted photos and part numbers and info on the pipe replacement when I did it here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2007-2-7l-coolant-bypass-pipe-replacement-info-photos.805019/

I'm thinking people may have called it stainless steel cause it looks like it.

This is insane. It's an easy job that the average DIYer can do in maybe 4 hours, 6 for sure. Basic hand tools only.

No one can tell you if you can delay the repair, because it's possible the pipe could catastrophically fail. I think that'd be a remote chance, but....

If I was you, I'd call a local general repair shop, because this is not a difficult job at all. If you were near me, I'd do it for $300 if you bring the parts and some beer :)

Fully agree. Did mine in 4 hours and took time to clean the throttle body while it was off. My pipe was brittle at 200,000 KM and broke while it was being removed. It was a problem waiting to happen. The replacement pipe and gasket was less than $150 CDN for OEM parts.

I just finished replacing the coolant pipe on Sat, also removing the intake manifold and throttle body to clean on my 09 2TRFE w/ 160k, I was surprised to see how dirty that intake manifold is (almost like the bottom of an oil pan)! Used a lot of carb cleaner and shop rags reaching inside as far as I could... Last time I went to Valvoline for oil change they incorrectly closed the air filter houseing leaving a gap in the back...so i was sucking in a lot of dust for a few thousand miles before I noticed...? Now I do my own oil changes...
