Just noticed Toyota's service schedule calls for changing the coolant at 128k (km) the first time, and then every 64k thereafter. Why the reduced interval after the first change? Is it OK to let it go further between changes?

I think the shorter maintenance interval (after the 1st service) is because you can't drain it all out. The capacity is 9.1 quarts, and when I did the service, I drained the block and the radiator and I only got about 6 quarts out. So all the coolant is new from the factory and they give you 100,000 miles. But you can't change it all out, so they only give you 50,000 miles after the first service. This may not be the real reason but it makes 100% sense to me.

This service is cheap and easy so I don't know why you would want to go beyond the recommended service interval. But you probably could get away with it - the engines will outlive the chassis on these trucks.
