What do you mean by "Close valve as soon the main flow finishes"? How do we know when this is? gonna save for future use on a 150k tacoma 4.0l 2014 that hasn't seen it since 60k when my dad got coolant and tranny flush.

    I have a 2.7L motor,
does it take the same amount of coolant to refill the radiator?
I am draining for the first time and want to do thing correctly.
If anyone can direct me to the correct procedures, I would appreciate it.

    thank you

This is just a quick dump of the rad. If done every year or two, its enough to keep the fluid fresh. I would just use the same zerex or toyota cooolant 50/50 pre mix. Buy two gallons, in case you spill some. To make it even easier, just jack the front of your vehicle up. That should keep the engine and the heater core from draining, mostly. Flow will slow to almost nothing, (close then) but keep core and engine from draining and getting air in the system. I usually do this when doing my diffs once a year. Doesn't take that long. I also do my t case and trans once a year, but i have a manual trans, so its super easy. Not necessary on an auto to do this often.

Found that this funnel setup really helps doing a coolant change. It has adapters that mimic the radiator cap so you can mount it on the radiator. Eliminates spillage and if you have done a complete flush you can leave it hooked up with coolant in it as the engine heats up and the thermostat opens and it helps to purge air. Since it has a stopper you can add more coolant than is needed to purge the air and then plug it before you remove it and add excess back to the new coolant jug with no spillage. Before i ran the engine and was filling i also unhooked the coolant hose going to the engine oil cooler (tow package) . Since its on the engine side of the thermostat it allowed any air trapped in the engine and heater core to be removed since its higher that both. Once i saw coolant start to dribble out of that hose I clamped it back on and had no air trapped in the system at all. I also used the pink/red Zerex asian formula coolant

Its the hose on the top I unhooked. Just a spring clamp and came off easily. You could unhook either hose , it doesn't matter. The upper one was just easier to do.

Just wanted to say "thanks" babylon5 for the info on that kit! I think I'll get one as well.

More than welcome. If you lived up in Toronto I would even lend you mine since how many coolant changes will I actually do
At the rate I am driving now it might be 7-10 years before the next change.

Maybe another TW member near you has one...

I try to find a group of friends that have different sets of tools. That way I can borrow one they may have and vice versa so we dont all have to by every tool ourselves.

Its the collective wisdom of forums like this that make it worthwhile. I am sure I heard about this funnel from someone else on TW that had used it before.

Just to be sure, is it for the 4 liter or the 2,7 liter ?
