    Hi all,

I just flushed my coolant today and after reading some threads i'm worried i may have done it incorrectly. Here is what I did.

    1. open radiator petcock and drain radiator coolant.
    2. use fuel transfer pump and empty coolant reservoir.
    3. Close petcock and fill radiator and reservoir with distilled water.
    4. Turn on truck and let it run for about 20 minutes (I let it reach normal temperature and run for a few minutes after reaching that point).
    5. Open petcock, drain distilled water. Use fuel transfer pump and take distilled water out of reservoir.
    6. Close petcock and fill both radiator and reservoir to full with Zerex asian red coolant.
7.Squeeze radiator ube (while radiator cap open) to work out air bubbles.
8.Turn on truck and let it run for a fe minutes with radiator cap open to work out air bubbles.
    9. Top off radiator with coolant.

My concern is that I did not drain existing coolant from engine block, as I was unaware of this step until afterwards. How badly will this affect my radiator engine if i just do the radiator flush and not the engine block?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You changed most of the fluid so I wouldn't worry about it.

    In step #6, was that 100% anti-freeze, or 50/50?
    If 100%, you are OK.
If 50/50, then your coolant is not properly mixed as the block had a mixture of old coolant and distilled water. You will be short on anti-freeze, by about 2 quarts. But taking out 2 quarts now will include the old mixture with the fresh radiator mixture. So, you actually need to remove a little more anti-freeze. The math can get confusing! Just replace about 2.5 quarts and have a radiator shop measure the coolant potency with a test kit. Should be free; or buy a $5 kit with the floating balls at Vato-zone.

Isnt the stuff bought from Toyota already mixed to the correct ratio? Maybe use that and you won't have to figure out all the proportions. Never have to play with floating balls.

How did the orginal dump of fluid and the subsequent dump of the distilled water look?

If the 2nd was pretty clear (not a lot of rust/sediment) I wouldn't fret over it. You diluted what was in the block so much with the cycle of distilled water, and now with the new stuff, you'll be fine.

How long has it been since the last change? Have the water pump and tstat been changed before?
