My only saving grace/thinking logically was I didn't drive the truck but maybe a total of 10 miles. (The day I took it home there was 90% rain in my area) didnt notice the small puddle til I was at work when the sun came out.

Seeing as how the bolt is kind of high Im reallllly hoping not much fluid was lost to effect anything drastic.

We will see how this back and forth goes and i’ll do everyrhing I can to have some kind of coverage/back up in writing concerning the transmission.

Quick question to anyone that can chime in. I never noticed this, but is my cover supposed to have bolts here and or a bracket??

There are lots of extra, unused inserts. I don't think that one is a worry.

I believe that blue mark was a factory check that nothing was supposed to be installed there.

Yes, they should admit the plug was left off, that way you have some leverage in the unfortunate event of premature failure.
That said, I would do a pan drain and replace of the ATF fluid in a week or so, in case of any minor contamination. But these A/T are very tough and reliable so chances favors a good long life

I don't see anything that may be a concern, my SR5 is the same. The valve covers maybe used on other 3.5l applications where they may attach a bracket and such.

1st off, thank you for your Service!

As far as driving with fill plug out, yes there would be sone fluid loss, as you have seen. With the weather conditions you stayed, if there was an extreme loss of fluid, there would be visible signs to the rear bumper.

Slim chance of debris entering the transmission. You state it was slightly wet out, that would keep the road dust down. You stated it wasn’t a torrential rain, so not a great deal of road water spray.

Personally, I would drive a hundred it so miles, then drain the pan and refill properly. With this recent dealer issue, I would want to ensure the fluid level is correct.

I appreciate you, Im going to see what Toyota does now that a case number has been started. (Before I drain the pan)

I really wish Toyota had a more detailed report on major jobs that consisted of photos, pre-post fluid levels.

Wishful thinking since Im used to documenting everything daily at work to prepare for my shift.
