Twice in the last 20,000 miles I have noticed my coolant was down about a quart. At the same time there was a whiteish sludge build up inside the oil filler cap and neck. I vaguely remember an engine many years ago with a similar looking sludge on the dip stick, that had developed a head gasket leak. Has anyone heard of an internal coolant leak in the 1GRfe engine showing this condition?

There's a very good chance that the sludge in the oil cap is just the result of condensation. Do you take many short trips in the truck?

When my coolant has been a bit low, I have cold-filled the overflow up to full, and monitored it closely for level change.

I'm not too familiar with internal leaks, perhaps someone else will chime in with some tests you might try.

Check around the radiator cap for evidence of it leaking.

I don't know the history of your particular truck, but on my 07.....I had the radiator cap replaced twice while it was under warranty and it still leaked. I ended up buying an aftermarket (Stant) radiator cap with a slightly higher pressure. It's been good ever since.
