Hey y'all, I am having an issue with coolant. My overflow reservoir is down almost 3/4 qt in 2 days. I have searched for leaks but do not see any. I have an 03 Tacoma Prerunner 6cyl 2wd 3.4L auto.

any ideas as to why? My water pump and timing belt were done about 2 1/2 year ago and there are no visible leaks in that area.

Also, no puddles and no coolant on the skid plates. Just replaced the screw-type radiator hose clamps with spring clamps over the weekend. No leaks at the hoses, both upper and lower. Hoses are fairly new (2 1/2) years were replaced during the water pump/timing belt job.

Any missing when you start it up? I'd probably do a exhaust gas test in the coolant just to rule out a head gasket leak and keep an eye on the engine oil. I'd also carefully check under the heater and make sure the core isn't leaking and ending up under the mat or carpet. Does it smell ''different'' inside the cab?

Matt, the oil is clean but looks a bit 'red' on my yellow microfibre towel. Is that a bad sign??

Fxntime, I will start it up and look for any leaks.

With the amount of coolant you’re losing, if it were going into the oil I’d expect it to be cloudy if you check it right after the truck has been running. I think we’re all concerned about head gasket issues though.

The coolant loss was about 1/2 quart. Oil looks good, tail pipe is clean.

No smells within the cab. Heater doesn't seem to be leaking

Engine runs just fine...no misfires nor codes. No smoke (white or black) coming out of the exhaust pipe. No milkey residue on the inside of the oil fill cap.

I had a 3.4 that was going through coolant like that once. It never was getting into my oil. It was burning and escaping out my exhaust. One of the heads ended up having a crack in it. Get yourself a tester.

I had ordered a blue dye kit but just canceled it. I think I found my problem! Apparently the lower radiator hose clamp on the engine side was loose so I tightened it up. Haven't loss hardly any since. I will be changing the clamps to spring type just as I did the upper hose.
