It's a poor design and materials choice and probably affects a large % of trucks

How big a percentage? I ask because I've been active here since I bought my 2019 three years ago this is the first post I've seen on it. That doesn't mean anything other than this is the first post I've seen on it.

It probably did on gen3 trucks manufactured back a few years ago, but you don't hear much about it anymore. I doubt there's a large percentage of newer tacoma's running around with faulty coolant crossover pipes.

I consider my 2019 mid 3rd Gen production, was the issue resolved by then?

What's a good way to get a visual of this part? I'm getting my 2017 back from service here soon and would be thrilled if I found it to be leaking

Poor design in what way. If every part was designed with a 1,000,000 mile MTBF our trucks would cost over a billion dollars. While this part may fail more than a hood latch or a seat adjuster, it doesn't mean it is a poor design. You may not like the way they designed it, but they put a lot of time and effort into designing vehicles and for the vast majority, we will never see a problem with it. If it occurs more than it should like the old head gaskets in the 3.0, they will fix it. Otherwise with any vehicle there will be parts that fail before others. That is why places like auto zone stay in business.

Only that toyota had most those issues on their 2017 and 2018 tacoma 3.5's. This crossover pipe was suppose to be redesigned for the 2019 model year. Haven't heard any on newer years till now.

Here’s a picture of where the crossover pipe sits, I sure hope that I don’t have to ever change that bugger out!

 Took this off a Craigslist post, only $4,500 with around 9,000 miles on it. I understand that these clutch things go with something called a manual transmission but they were made for an ancient race of people who had three legs to manipulate the three pedals instead of two. That’s what I was told anyway.:D

That 3rd leg also comes with a heighten sense of self importance.

It totally sucks to have the one that has a problem from the factory, but…the initial issue was addressed by Toyota, and the related complaints virtually disappeared. I agree it’s likely a human error during the assembly process. Either way, hopefully your service dept takes good care of you.
